The Architecture & The Organ

The Organ
The present organ was bought for Saint Charles' around 1866. This organ had been built for St John's Church, Hull in either 1812 or more likely, 1815. Prior to being placed in Saint Charles' it had been at Saint Wilfrid's, York. It was rebuilt and improved by Messrs Forster ansd Andrews in 1909. Further modifications were added in 1959.

The Architecture of Saint Charles

The building of the church was begun by the architect John Earle (1778-1863). It was remodelled soon afterward by J.J Scholes (1798-1863). It's final remodelling was under the supervision of Smith, Broderick and Lowther, who added the porch. This very calm exterior gives no hint of the Baroque drama within. Immenkamp painted this in 1894.
