EXCLUSIVE: On the same week that the sleeper Bridesmaids crossed the $100 million domestic gross mark, Universal Pictures has just made a preemptive acquisition of an original comic pitch that will re-team its director, Paul Feig, with Bridesmaids producer Judd Apatow. Feig will write and direct the untitled comedy, and produce it with Apatow. These guys go all the way back together to the Feig-created Freaks and Geeks.
Studio was keeping the log line under wraps, but it is an unconventional love story and is something Feig has been working on for awhile so it could happen in the near term. Of course, when a movie performs the way that the Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo-scripted Bridesmaids has, they usually start talking sequel about now, so stay tuned. Feig’s also a prolific TV director, including Weeds, Nurse Jackie and The Office. Feig’s repped by CAA, Apatow by UTA and Mosaic.

Yay… another part for Leslie Mann!!!
Kudos to bridesmaids starring the “awful” Kristen Wig passing the 100 million mark.
Kristen wig has NEVER been and will never be boring. In fact, she is one of the funniest comedians out there. Comedic timing is pitch perfect. Plus, you sad person, she still makes more than you…Yes, she does.
How is it a sleeper? It made 100 million in 4 weeks.
Laughed harder at Bridesmaids than anything since Team America. Way back in the days doing stand-up, Paul was that proverbial “nicest guy in the world.” He’s had a wonderful career in TV, but great to see things breaking so big in features for someone so deserving both as a creator and a person.
Good for Paul Feig and Universal. Its funny how a comedy like Hangover 2 can make over $200 million when a comedy like Bridemaids is actually funnier.
Yeah, good for Paul after having to slum it on The Office all those years.
Does Apatow still work with Shauna Robertson? What’s she up to these days?
previously found Kristen Wiig dull,
but this film won me over and my husband & I laughed our pants off.
better writing, better parts
