jamie's dream school

SYNOPSIS

jamie oliverWhile a lot of young people in Britain go on to further and higher education, almost half leave school at 16 without the recommended 5 A-C grades at GCSE and very few prospects. In this new series, Jamie Oliver brings together some of Britain's most inspirational individuals to see if they can persuade 20 such kids to give education a second chance.
Having struggled academically himself (Jamie has dyslexia and left school at 16 with just two GCSEs), he now wants to help this group of young people through an intensive reintroduction to learning, with the offer of support for those who want to re-enter education.
The series looks at the young people’s educational problems and attempts to uncover whether they are down to personal circumstance, society, or the education system itself. It also examines how the new teachers get on as they try to translate their real-life expertise into the realities of the classroom.
The experts include scientist Professor Robert Winston, historian David Starkey, barrister Cherie Blair, journalist and political aide Alastair Campbell, actor Simon Callow, musician Jazzie B and Olympic gold medallist Daley Thompson.

DREAM TEACHERS COMPETITION

Jamie and YouTube have launched a new video competition to find and celebrate the UK’s most engaging teachers; those who succeed in inspiring their students every day.

After questioning over 1000 teachers and working closely with Edexcel, the country’s largest awarding body, they have identified the hardest 21 topics across 7 of the key subjects taught at GCSE and Standard Grade. They are now looking for teachers that have found a great approach to helping students understand and conquer these challenges.

If this sounds like you or a teacher you know, visit www.YouTube.com/DreamTeachers to find out how to enter the competition.
