Coventry City's Acting Chairman Geoffrey Robinson has expressed his sadness at Gary McSheffrey's departure to Birmingham City.
McSheffrey signed for the Championship club this morning, in a deal valued at £4-million.
"I was personally desperate for Gary to stay and made that clear to him," said Mr Robinson.
"But after weeks of intense pressure on the Club and the player, it reached the point where both parties felt that Gary's future and the Club's position would best be served by accepting Birmingham's offer.
"I wish to thank Gary from the bottom of my heart for his outstanding service to Coventry City and wish him well for the future."
