A.G.’s Office Co-Government Spokesman

The Deputy Minister of Information & Communications, Sheka Tarawalie, has told journalists that the Shears-Moses Commission report on the violence that erupted in the country in 2009 is currently in the office of the Attorney General, contrary to local press reports that President Koroma did nothing when he received it.

Speaking during his ministry’s usual weekly press briefing, which he was chairing last Thursday, the Co-Government Spokesman said immediately after receiving the report, President Koroma handed it over to the then Attorney General A.F. Serry-Kamal “because there were legal ramifications; and it is left with the Attorney General’s office to come up with the relevant piece of advice which will inform the Government White Paper that will be made public.” The Minister said all that is currently being written in the press “is mere insinuation until we get to the very bottom of the Shears-Moses report.

Responding to a question about local press reports that the flag-bearer of the opposition SLPP Julius Maada Bio did not go to Ghana for medical examination, the Minister said that was also a mere report and not the official government position. However, he said, the question that should be asked is why Mr Maada Bio is refusing to comply with police advice for his head to be examined by a police doctor. “Why would a man who wants to lead a country not willing to abide by the rules of that country? Mr Bio should know that no one is above the law. This country has rules; there is law and order; and no one is exempted. His refusal to cooperate with the law-enforcement agencies could militate against him; it is advisable for him to comply with the law,” Minister Tarawalie maintained.
