Human Events: The Mind of America

Sorry to be making this update a bit late, but a lot has been happening lately.  I’m very happy to announce that I’ve joined Human Events as a full-time writer!  My first essay has been posted at www.humanevents.com:

The Mind of America

I’ve also posted a farewell to Hot Air, my blogging home since April 2009, which you can read here.

Since I’m writing exclusively for Human Events now, I’m not sure what will become of this web site.  I’ll continue posting links to Human Events as my work appears there, and would invite everyone to join the discussion in their comment forums.  My role there will be expanding in the next few weeks.  I’ll be writing a lot more.

I greatly appreciate the high quality of discourse produced by readers of this web site.  Keeping my day job running has made it hard for me to participate in the discussions, but now that writing will be my day job, I hope I can do so more frequently.  I would like to proudly invite everyone to join the discussion at Human Events.  They are a revered institution of conservative thought, and they’ve expressed remarkable faith in me.  I’m determined to prove myself worthy of their trust, and bring further honor to their name.  This is a dream come true, and everyone who left such kind and thoughtful comments here, during the past year, helped to make it come true.  I hope to bring further honor to all of you, as well.

Congratulations! I’d follow you anywhere, and since I’m already a reader over at Human Events, I’m delighted to have your writing available there. You have a clarity of thought that is refreshing and a joy to read–thanks so much for taking the plunge at Hot Air. We need writers like you now more than ever.

John, my friend, you are–without a doubt–going to be a tremendous asset to whomever you work, even as estimable a magazine as Human Events. Their faith in you is well-earned! Even this pseudo-commie-liberal will register and post; hell, someone’s gotta keep you in line.

As always, proud to know you, and I cannot wait until you supplant Rove as the Conservative Great Architect.

I’ve never posted here, but I’ve been a dedicated reader since last September when I discovered Hot Air. The precision and tact of your writing is sure to captivate the audience at Human Events as it has captivated me. I will be doing a double take for a while as I adjust to seeing “John Hayward” in my RSS feed instead of “Doc Zero”.

No matter the fate of this website, I do hope the archived articles will still be available electronically from some source. They are invaluable.

In June my S/O had serious cardiac surgery. Two months later, in August, I had a heart attack, requiring a stent and other procedures. Between us, our medical needs and recovery, complicated by our respective autoimmune diseases, have kept us away from our most favorite pasttimes, which for me meant missing Hot Air, the Green Room, Doc Zero, Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin.

Now that things are turning to the better for us I’ve discovered that, despite being retired with oodles of free time, there’s no way I could possibly catch up on all those months of HA and my other favorites.

But there were a few writers, John, whose work I refuse to give up reading. And finally I waded through the archives of your Green Room articles and came upon this one in which you announce your fabulous career change. Human Events is an awesome feather in your cap for sure, my dear!!!

A long time ago I followed Ed Morrissey from his Captain’s Quarters blog to his new career move here at Hot Air. Now I am thrilled to follow another extremely talented writer, you John, to the newest bookmarked site in my ‘daily must read blogs’, being Human Events.

Thank you for all you have done to put insane political and human issues through a sanity filter for people like me who need help sorting through the events in this world and making sense of it all.

The very best wishes and good luck to you in your career endeavors, John. I hope that your experience at Human Events is the most wonderful and insightful as you walk this new path in your life.

    Dear;Dear; Doc: God Bless You.

That you have moved up is no surprise to any who have learned from you. I have a few good men in my life that talked some sense into me, and you sound just like them.

Go get what you deserve mister, I for one am proud of you.

Congratulations, Doc! I’ll miss finding you on your own cozy little website, but I’m thrilled for you. You’re an incredible writer and we need our own Thomas Paine more than ever.

    Doc,

First of all, congratulations on your new career, I hope Human Events appreciates what an incredible mind they have just hired.

Secondly, I wanted to thank BOTH you for your wonderful writing and Joe Koday for his silky drawl and earnest delivery. You have both been my regular driving companions for the last several months (nearly a year now, isn’t it?) since Joe took up reading your essays as therapy and wound up podcasting them.

I do hope that Human Events continues to allow Joe to narrate your work in podcast form. (perhaps they may even be interested in hiring him on too!) I will miss not having your new essays to listen to in my drives to work. If not, I hope you and Joe would consider compiling all of the podcasts into an audiobook. (Or at least the “Year One” essays.)

Regardless what the future brings, thank you both for your wonderful work, I look forward to reading and hearing more.

    Doc,

Thank you for your work. I don’t know what you have been doing besides creating these Doctor Zero pieces but I hope your new gig works out wonderfully for you.

You state that you will be ‘writing a lot more’. I sincerely hope that the deadlines and demands you encounter allow you to keep up your quality. Being from an earlier generation I believe that quality trumps quantity every time.

If you find yourself being pressured to produce please consider…

That’s fantastic Doc. Yours was that first site I’d go to daily–unfortunately, there wasn’t always a new post daily. But it looks like now there’s going to be. Congratulations and we’ll see you at Humane Vents (I still don’t understand what that’s supposed to mean). It’s already in my favorites.
