Faith & Family at Google+

Join us!

I have been playing around with Google+ as much as time will allow in recent days, and so far, I really like what I see. I especially enjoy seeing some familiar Faith & Family faces when they pop up over there.

I know from Lisa’s recent post that some of you are experimenting with this latest form of social media as well. As I was creating different circles over the weekend, I thought it might be nice to gather a list of Faith & Family moms on Google+ so that we could connect with one another.

If you are over at Google+ and would like to be part of the Faith & Family list, please leave a comment on the Google+ post. That way, anyone who would like to form a “Faith & Family” circle at Google+ will be able to scroll through the list, right-click on names, and add them to their circle.

Thanks and see you there!

Baby Needs

What's your "must-have" list?

I have a few friends who are currently expecting their first children, and they’re navigating the world of baby registries and must-have lists. I don’t envy them.

It can be overwhelming, preparing for a first baby. You get so much advice and a lot of it contradicts other advice you’ve gotten, and you really can’t know ahead of time what your baby will like or what you as a parent will be comfortable... READ MORE

Praying for Veterans

Share your names and join in

I highly recommend reading the essay that Rebecca linked to in honor of Veterans’ Day. I found it inspiring and thought-provoking.

In the meantime, in honor of this day, I thought it would be nice to publicly acknowledge the veterans in our lives, both living and dead. What better way to honor veterans than by praying for them?

In the comments section of this post, please list any loved ones who’ve served in the armed forces. If you have loved ones in active duty, feel free to share their names as well. It’ll be our special Faith & Family Veterans’ Day Prayer List.

I’ll begin with my own list in the comments.

What Are Your Favorite Romantic Comedies?

I'm gathering date night suggestions

Dan and I recently enjoyed watching Letters to Juliet.

It was certainly not high art, but it was a cute little story (I think completely inoffensive, but don’t quote me on that—I might have forgotten something!) and made for a fun evening together.

We enjoy watching lots of different kinds of movies, but when it’s my turn to choose what we watch, I pretty much always pick a romantic comedy.

But picking... READ MORE

OSV's Catholic Guide to the Internet

Reader's Choice Edition

Earlier this week, I was thrilled to learn that Faith & Family Live has earned a spot in the OSV Cathoilc Guide to the Internet—Reader’s choice edition.

Also on the list is our own Lisa Hendey for her site, CatholicMom.com. Congrats Lisa!

There are dozens of others—all worth checking out, and some of which I did not know of previously. It’s definitely worth browsing through the links there to find some great new resources.

Faith & Family Live is honored to have made the list. THANK YOU for reading here and for voting for us!

Learning to List

What kind of packer are you?

Before my husband and I had kids, we travelled often, and packing for trips was no big deal. I gave very little thought to it.

I subscribe to the theory that the job of packing expands to fill the time available for it. My general approach was to wait until, say, an hour before we had to leave for the airport, and then start throwing things in a bag. It worked pretty well.

Until we had kids, that... READ MORE

New Baby Name Data

Name geeks unite!

Based on the response to past discussions about baby names, I’m guessing I’m not the only baby-name geek hanging around Faith & Family Live. Right?

This is an exciting time of year for name geeks, since the Social Security Administration’s list of most popular baby names from the year before is released. You can see the 2009 list here.

I’ve had hours of fun with the SSA’s baby name website. There’s... READ MORE

48 Go-To Family Games

Make your next Family Game Night a hit with our readers' picks!

I want to thank everyone who offered family board game suggestions in my recent post about Family Fun Night.

I love getting recommendations from what other families have enjoyed and ... wow! What a great list we’ve compiled!

I went through all of the suggestions and put together a list with links. I think this makes a convenient collection of reader-recommended products—just in time for Christmas... READ MORE

This Mother's Rule of Ten

10 ideas for every day

I was touched by the ten words of mom-wisdom from Denise Jonas that Lisa shared over the weekend. Reading through her list made me think about what I would put on a list of my own.

Here’s the list of 10 pieces of advice I came up with as helpful reminders for moms (and myself):

1. Touch them. It’s easy to get physical with your kids when their dimpled bottoms and chubby cheeks are just begging for... READ MORE

Label Makers

Learning to trust

Last week, the boys and I went out of town to take care of a farm for some friends. The couple went North to visit their daughter, who is a cloistered nun, and we had the opportunity to spend some time in the country caring for the chickens and rabbits, the duck, dog and cat.

Upon our return, we were greeted to the chaos of home repair and the last week before school starts, which leads me to today’s... READ MORE
