Catholic New Media Conference

Saturday, October 1, 2011

The Catholic New Media Conference (CNMC) is a festive, educational, and international conference focused on evangelization and building community through the use of new media. This event is designed to connect, guide and inform Catholic communicators as a response to the Church’s call for new evangelization.

“The 2011 CNMC will focus particularly on social media, its impact on culture, and how the Church and its institutions can effectively use it,” says Fr. Roderick Vonhögen, CEO of SQPN.  “We will be exploring how social media can be used with quality content; authentic catechesis and, a true sense of mission,” he says.

All interested in Catholic communication, new media, and social media are invited, including young adults (18+), ministry leaders, and priests and religious, to whom Pope Benedict appealed in his 2010 World Communications Day message, to “become an ever more pastoral presence on the web.”

For specifics about the schedule, please see the Program page.

About SQPN

SQPN, the Star Quest Production Network, is a non-profit Catholic apostolate dedicated to evangelization and formation through new media. SQPN creates engaging multi-media, specializing in audio and video productions (known as podcasts) faithful to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Its mission responds to the Church’s call to use the media for religious information, evangelization and catechesis, and formation and education. SQPN.com is a portal for a select number of affiliated Catholic podcasters that share the vision and media strategy of SQPN.

“Star Quest” refers to the star of Bethlehem that emerged and caught the attention of three Magi from foreign cultures. The Magi’s quest led to the discovery of the newborn Savior.  The programs of SQPN tap into popular culture inviting people to journey together and discover their own encounter with Christ.

Training

CNMC Breakout Tracks

We will feature two breakout tracks during this year’s CNMC.  The “Social Media Spirituality” track will focus on the scriptural and spiritual attributes of working in Catholic social media.  We will discuss the call to evangelization in this new mission field and how to be properly formed for it.  The “Blogging and Social Media Techniques” track will showcase the latest ways of incorporating social media into your personal, parish and organizational online presence.   Both of these are not to be missed!

Catholic Media Guild Workshops

For the first time, the SQPN Catholic Media Guild will organize an extra day of formation and training for everyone who is involved in Catholic media.  These will take place on Friday, September 30, 2011, the day before the CNMC.

We will help you use the latest technology and the most recent developments in new media to reach out to the world. From the iPad to the Android, from iPhone to social networks and blogs: we teach you how to publish your creative content everywhere and to engage your audience.

These workshops are geared toward priests, deacon, religious and any individuals and parish workers who are interested in hands-on learning about social media and how it can be best used in their parish/school activities,  organizations, etc.

Four workshops will be presented during the day:

  • Workshop #1 – “How to turn your web presence into a social network” (Techniques and tools for the modern parish website)
  • Workshop #2 – “’Gadgets & Gizmos”  (Can all the new wireless and handheld devices be incorporated in to parish/organizational activities appropriately?
  • Workshop #3 – Community Building – Resources and Guidelines for using social media in parish outreach.
  • Workshop #4 – “The Word Gone Digital” (Scriptural mandate and the call for evangelization in  the digital frontier)
