Fatima Comes to Boston

Just in time for the month of the Rosary

Since October is the month of the Rosary, and October 13th is the anniversary of what I like to call The Day God proved His Existence to the World (aka the miracle of the sun), I thought it would be a good idea to tell you about my husband’s job.

Bill is the escort of the National Pilgrim Virgin of Our Lady of Fatima. This statue was given to the World Apostolate of Fatima (formerly known as the... READ MORE

Pink Zebra Rosary Beads

Why not?

I saw this cute rosary at the Catholic Marketing Network Convention last week.

It’s a bestseller from Trendy Traditions, and I believe the name of that company tells everything you want to know about why there should be a hot pink rosary with zebra Our Father beads.

My only frustration at the convention was that most of the merchandise displayed by hundreds of companies was not for sale, but only... READ MORE

Praying Together

not always easy, always worthwhile

Do you say a family rosary? Is it daily, weekly?

I want to give a brief testimony to anyone struggling with this concept: it’s worth the effort.

I almost used the word “pain” instead of “effort,” because there are plenty of times when gathering the brood to say the rosary can be epic. We pray every day as a family, but there are many days when we adjust the depth and scope of our gathering to fit... READ MORE

My Rosary Top Ten

My Favorite Rosary Resources

This week has been a great blessing to me. I have really benefited from the insight and wisdom in the comments. Thank you to everyone for being so gracious and welcoming!

Today I’m collecting my top ten rosary resources for you. This list isn’t exhaustive, and I had to leave a lot of things off of it. Being a tad bit obsessive compulsive, I knew that if I didn’t draw the line at a certain number (like... READ MORE

The Rosary as a Family Affair

My Big Plans…and Equally Small Steps

I always feel a little sheepish admitting to people that my family doesn’t pray the family rosary. It’s like admitting that I’m not cheering for the sports team all my friends are playing on.

It first came up in a Faith & Family podcast last year. And when I admitted it, I found myself immediately surrounded by people sighing in relief.

You mean there’s comfort in knowing that?

Good.

But, all that... READ MORE

The Prayer I HAVE to Pray

The Rosary as My Weapon of Choice

According to my confessor and spiritual director, we all have habitual sins. Each of us has an area of weakness, and that’s where our personal tempters and/or the devil attack first. In fact, when we’ve talked about my habitual sin, he used the word “addiction.”

I don’t know about you, but thinking of sin as an addiction took some getting used to. I mean, when I think of addiction, I think of drugs... READ MORE

Praying the Rosary: Try and Try Again

Tips from a Failed Rosary Pray-er

I have been trying to succeed at the rosary for nearly ten years. It seems to be the devotion I just can’t escape: I’ll put it away for months at a time, only to have an intention that calls for nothing less than the Big Guns.

My failures over the years seem to fall into a range of categories, but, as I’ve considered the excuses I tell myself and God over and over, there seem to be a few repeat offenders.... READ MORE

Praying the Rosary: the Mechanics

The “How To” with a Big Dose of Cheering

I started trying to pray the rosary sitting on my bed at night. I would juggle the beads and the prayer book, stumbling through the unfamiliar prayers and wondering how I would ever be able to call the fumbling I was doing successful. Was THIS what prayer was supposed to be? I felt like I was multi-tasking in the very worst way, and my connection to God seemed non-existent.

I was committed, though.... READ MORE

A Week of Rosary Blogging

In which I get to "play" at Faith & Family Live

Hi everyone! It’s an honor and a delight to be guest blogging this week at one of my favorite places on the internet.

A month or so ago, I asked Danielle if I could spend a week doing some rosary blogging here during October, which is the Month of the Rosary (because, you know, y’all don’t hear enough about my devotion to Mary), and she said yes!

A little about me, before I tell you my plan for the... READ MORE

My Rosary Saved My Life

Glenn Hockton says his rosary saved him from a land mine.

The 19-year-old was on patrol in Afghanistan

when his rosary beads suddenly dropped from his neck. He bent down to retrieve the chain and realized he was on top of a land mine.
Hockton stood still for 45 minutes while his colleagues worked to secure the land mine.

His great-grandfather also credits the rosary for saving him during WW II. That’s one family that ought never miss a daily decade!
