Cry Room Wish List
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Tuesday, September 06, 2011
This past weekend, I served a stint in the “cry room” of an Indiana parish with my wonderful nephew Tyler. I volunteered for my sentence, since I love Tyler beyond measure and wanted to treat his parents to a stress free mass experience, minus the wrangling of a squirmy preschooler.
My sister is very wise about the Cry Room. Her family rightly refers to it as the “Quiet Room”, and it is not a place... READ MORE
Brunch Inspiration

One of the most challenging aspects of going to early Mass every Sunday is how utterly starving we all are once we’re done. No one (especially me!) ever wants to go home to cook because we are ready to eat right then, as soon as we get in the van.
The thought of having to pull out ingredients and cook something seems like more than anyone can take. And while I don’t really mind going out to eat, I... READ MORE
Missal Changes Explained for Middle Schoolers
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Tuesday, August 30, 2011
We’ve been talking about the upcoming changes to the language we use at Mass and yesterday I recommended a new missal resource for young children. Now here’s a simple video with an easy way to explain some of the changes (and the reasons for them) to middle school aged children. And it’s not just for kids—I enjoyed it myself!

New Missal Resource for Catholic Kids
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Monday, August 29, 2011
Have you read Daria’s article about the upcoming changes to the language we use in the Mass? If you read all the way to the end, you will see that we grown ups have many resources for learning more about these changes and preparing for them.
But how can we best prepare our children for changes in the Mass? A great book to use is The Mass Explained for Kids (scroll down), upcoming from Pauline Books.... READ MORE
Cry Room Conundrum

For the first time in a long while, I am a frequent visitor of the dreaded Cry Room. It’s not my favorite place to hang out, but it’s our best option right now.
We’ve been in a very nice season for a long while. After what felt like eternity with our oldest four we finally had everyone trained with good behavior and had even managed to move to the very front of our church. When Henry came along, he... READ MORE
Mom Occupations and Mass Verifications

This week on the Faith & Family Live Cast (click here to listen or click on the player above), Sarah, Elizabeth and I take on two weighty topics. In our first segment, we revisit Rebecca’s recent post on working moms has prompted a lot of conversation on the blog. We each share from our own experiences on the topics of work, balance and keeping everything on track with so many competing priorities.... READ MORE

Yesterday, I had an interesting conversation with one of our readers. This mom had just come from a recent First Communion preparation meeting with her First Grader, a Catholic school student who will be receiving his sacraments next Spring.

When You Can't Go

I’m enjoying reading the answers to Rachel’s question about your favorite Holy Week observances. But it is also making me a little wistful.
When I was a kid the Triduum seemed like an interminable parade of long, boring services. As an adult I’ve learned to love the sorrow and glory of this week’s liturgies, and I look forward to them every year.
This year I will be missing out. After a serious chat... READ MORE
View from the Pew

I’ve been thinking lately about the larger Body of Christ; how varied and beautiful is the gathering of people who fill the pews in any given church at any given Mass. What a gift it is to look around and see young and old, people from all walks of life and all stages of the game.
In our experience, Paul and I have been so blessed by the people who sit around us at our early Mass each Sunday. There... READ MORE
Joyful, Joyful

I was able to capture this special moment from the closing Mass at the National Theology of the Body Congress this week. It was such a beautiful ending to a fantastic few days. Cardinal Justin Rigali was our celebrant, and the site of so many priests concelebrating together was a true joy. Enjoy!
