Behold The Power, of Guns!

A burglar broke into a house in Portland, OR recently and when the homeowner came home and confronted him, he locked himself in the bathroom and called 911 so the police would come and protect him…from the homeowner.

Why?

He thought the homeowner had a gun and was going to shoot him.

“Timothy James Chapek, 24, allegedly broke into the Portland, Oregon house but dialed 911 when he was confronted by the owner, ABC reports.

Chapek locked himself in the bathroom and waited for police to “free” him because he feared he may be shot at.

Sergeant Pete Simpson from Portland Police Department said Chapek called before the owner did.

“He called first and said that he broke into the house, the homeowners now were home and he was afraid they had guns,” he said.”

From “Formerly” Great Britain

Unbelievable, but true:

Residents in Surrey and Kent villages have been ordered by police to remove wire mesh from their windows as burglars could be injured.

Home owners in the villages of Tandridge and Tatsfield in Surrey and in Westerham, Brasted and Sundridge in Kent have said they are furious that they are being branded ‘criminals’ for protecting their property.

Locals had reinforced their windows with wire mesh after a series of shed thefts but were told by community police officers that the wire was ‘dangerous’ and could lead to criminals claiming compensation if they ‘hurt themselves’.

Goodbye Detroit!

I’d buy that for a dollar!

Beware evil-doers in the city of Detroit, there’s a new sheriff in town! Someone’s trying to raise money to build a statue (not a real robot, damnit) of the cinematic, robotic crime fighter, Robocop. I’m of mixed opinions about this. One the one hand, this is cool as all hell, but on the other it’s a robotic cop…and as Jeffersonian will tell you, the potential stuff of nightmares. Then again, he was the good cop, surrounded by “bad apples”…

In any case, go here and read more about it, and if so inclined, donate.

Gun related content… Does anyone know the types of guns used in the movie? If so, let me know in the comments!

Gun Offender Registry?

Posted on by Yuri Orlov.

Connecticut State Senate Majority Leader Martin “Looney” (no joke – ed) thinks that there should be a registry for gun offenders. Perhaps I’m missing something here, but aren’t criminals already barred from legal gun possession? What possible purpose could this registry serve?

A Connecticut lawmaker wants to create the country’s first state registry for people convicted of gun crimes, a proposal he says will help police track and deter repeat offenders. Opponents worry it’ll be a costly, unnecessary and excessive step.

State Senate Majority Leader Martin Looney got the idea from several cities, including New York and Baltimore, which already have instituted gun-offender registries. The Connecticut Democrat, who represents a city experiencing a rash of gun violence, says early evidence suggests the established programs are having a “deterrent” effect.

Starting March 6th at 8PM, The Science Channel will be airing the complete Firefly series. Set your clocks and DVR’s for this one! What Firefly has to do with science beyond science fiction, I’m not sure, but I have to say I’m not too concerned.

That is all…for now.

They named a submarine after who?

Posted on February 12, 2011 by Yuri Orlov.

This, my incredulous response today at the gun show to Jeffersonian when he informed me that they had named an attack submarine after former president Jimmy Carter, arguably one of our worst presidents in recent memory, and one who just can’t seem to keep his yap shut and fade into history like a good former president should, especially one as ineffective and milquetoast as him.

The next thing out of my mouth was “So, does it shoot peanuts for torpedoes or something?” I just had to laugh. Who in their right mind names an attack submarine after Jimmy Carter? The reasoning just boggles the mind. Surely there were plenty of better naming options available. Besides, naming an attack submarine after one of the most anti-military presidents we’ve ever had begs inquiry. They should launch a congressional investigation and grill the people in charge of the naming.

Another thought, can you imagine being a submariner and having to tell other submariners which boat you serve on? I’d be positively red! Anyway, so that was today’s WTF moment. As for the gun show, it was the usual assortment of milsurp, bambi thumpers and AR-15′s, mixed into the jerky and candy vendors. No Nazi memorabilia at this one either. *shrug*
