Queensland, after defeating New South Wales in Brisbane in 1928 and 1929, confidently re-entered the fray in 1930, but once again proved to be a chopping block for all the other states. Tasmania proved to be little better, but as for the New South Welshman, they once again performed with credit, thrashing both Tasmania and Queensland, and almost pulling off an unthinkable win over Western Australia. The host state produced excellent form in its first four matches but yet again failed to cope when the gauntlet was thrown down by the Vics in the carnival decider. The era of Fos Williams and Neil Kerley was still a long way off.
