ParAccel Sets New World Records for Analytic Performance and Price/Performance on VMware vSphere ™ 4
World’s First TPC-H Benchmark on VMware vSphere™ 4 by ParAccel Establishes a New Era of Enterprise Analytic Processing by Combining Industry Leading Performance, Efficiency and Flexibility
Cupertino, Calif. – April 12, 2010 – ParAccel, Inc., provider of the industry record-breaking ParAccel Analytic Database (PADB) for strategic analytics, today announced it has established a new industry performance benchmark record for analytic processing using virtualized servers powered by VMware vSphere™ 4. ParAccel’s audited TPC-H benchmark demonstrates that PADB, running on VMware vSphere 4, gives businesses unprecedented levels of performance and price-efficiency for today’s advanced analytic applications and data warehouses and the emerging era of strategic business intelligence.
ParAccel achieved the fastest 1 TB TPC-H on record using VMware vSphere™ 4, with 7.7 times better price/performance than the prior performance record holder 1. Furthermore, this combination beat the previous TPC-H record using 37% fewer servers and with a superior database load time of 8.7 times faster than the previous performance record holder. An 80-node cluster of ParAccel’s PADB version 2.5 consolidated on 40 HP DL380 servers running VMware vSphere 4 achieved 1,316,882 Composite Queries per Hour (QphH) @ 1,000 GB, a price/performance of US $.70/QphH. Finally, this ParAccel solution uses a pure load-and-go approach that requires no indexing or manual partitioning, resulting in a data load time of just 16 minutes and 23 seconds – a rate of nearly 3.7 TBs per hour – compared to more than 2 hours required by the previous performance record holder. PADB 2.5 is scheduled for general release on June 30, 2010.
This new benchmark result establishes a path for organizations to create and deploy on-demand ultra-performance analytic processing in private clouds. Corporate analytic processing solutions based on ParAccel and VMware virtualization will allow companies to benefit from record performance for flexible and scalable enterprise analytics for private cloud environments.
“VMware has revolutionized IT with virtualization solutions that enable efficient hardware utilization, reduced administrative costs and significant energy savings. Organizations have been evaluating virtualization for one of the most hardware-intensive and vital corporate utilities – complex analytic processing,” said Barry Zane, CTO and founder, ParAccel. “Working with VMware, we’ve shown the industry that the powerful compression and processing capabilities of our ParAccel Analytic Database can be virtualized to deliver exceptional performance and savings. ParAccel has already demonstrated new levels of analytic performance and IT efficiency in standard deployments. Now paired with VMware virtualization, we have extended that leadership to virtualized deployments so that customers can achieve high levels of analytic performance for their private cloud environments.”
VMware virtualization enhances ParAccel performance, affordability, scalability and deployment options for practical adoption.
The combination of analytic capacity from ParAccel and virtualization from VMware showcases the extraordinary potential of on-demand scalable computing for analytic applications. This enhanced flexibility is an ideal complement to PADB’s unmatched capacity for fast and efficient complex data exploration, without the bloat of indices, materialized views or other schemas required by competing platforms.
“As customers continue on the path to the private cloud, they are virtualizing more and more demanding workloads. For corporate analytic processing solutions, they seek flexibility, scalability and cost efficiency, while still expecting incredibly high levels of performance,” said Parag Patel, vice president, alliances, VMware. “This new benchmark result based on VMware vSphere™ 4 and ParAccel helps customers create and deploy on-demand analytic processing solutions in a centrally managed virtualized infrastructure with record-breaking performance.”
