Bad Wolf-Dog!

New Maine Law Aims To Eliminate Wolf-Dog Hybrids

The law prohibits people from acquiring wolf hybrids without a special wildlife-in-captivity permit, and it requires current owners to have the animals neutered.

Supporters of the law say wolf hybrids have been responsible for numerous brutal attacks around the country, particularly against children. Wolf hybrids are predatory and should be in the wild, said state Sen. David Trahan, who sponsored the bill that outlaws them.

Brmerton, Washington:

A former Bremerton police officer pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Tacoma to unlawfully dealing firearms and filing a false income-tax return.

Federal prosecutors said Alloway bought and sold hundreds of guns without a federal firearms license, including many purchased at Tacoma gun shops and later sold at gun shows across the region

Woman shoots, kills bow-and-arrow-armed intruder

Florida:

Auxiliary Trooper Tabbatha Nussbaumer was in the shower in her upstairs bathroom when her 9-year-old son told her a man he didn’t recognize was in the house, the Pensacola Police Department said.

When Nussbaumer left her bathroom, Harris was at the bottom of the stairs holding the bow and arrow, police said.

Nussbaumer said Harris asked for money.

In an effort to get Harris out the house, Nussbaumer told him she had money in her truck. As Nussbaumer went out the front door, Harris followed and removed his clothes, police said.

She retrieved a handgun from the truck and ended up shooting the naked archer. It will be interesting to see how this turns out, as though the encounter began in the woman’s home it ended on the street. From the write-up, it sounds like a clear case of self-defense, but it will depend upon the exact circumstances. Didn’t he have to put down the bow to undress?

For what it’s worth, this is just another example of why the “magic wand solution” wouldn’t be any solution at all. Even if you could wave a magic wand and make all guns disappear forever and make it impossible to ever build more guns, we’d be worse off than we are now.

Naked guys with bows could rule the world. No one wants that.

Good News

“Gunwalking” subpoena for AG Holder imminent

All the signs point toward this being on the verge of getting the recognition it deserves. But Murdoc’s not sure he’s going to hold his breath quite yet.

They believe the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Attorney General Eric Holder bungled the operation and then tried to cover it up

Murdoc doesn’t think they’re the only ones who believe that.

House Republicans Request Special Counsel to Probe Holder on ‘Fast and Furious’

House Republicans are calling for a special counsel to determine whether Attorney General Holder perjured himself during his testimony to the House Judiciary Committee on Operation Fast and Furious, Fox News has learned.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, R-Texas, was sending a letter to President Obama on Tuesday arguing that Holder cannot investigate himself, and requesting the president instruct the Department of Justice to appoint a special counsel.

End of local concealed-gun bans worries officials across South Florida

Effective Saturday , many of South Florida’s “No guns allowed” signs are gone. That’s thanks to a new state law imposing fines of up to $5,000 on county and municipal officials, and even threatening them with removal from office, if they enforce firearms and ammunition restrictions other than those spelled out by state statute.

Seems straightforward. So what are these officials “worried” about?

The state legislation has been on the books since 1987. But because it did not contain any penalties until now, many local governments passed their own, more restrictive laws.

People who have been breaking state law since 1987 are suddenly worried that they’ll be penalized for it now.

One city manager, Joseph Gallegos of Wilton Manors, claims that penalizing officials who break state law is “speaks to a degree of intimidation seemingly unprecedented.” What an idiot.

That Old West must have been a lot more peaceful than in the movies…

June 2008:

“Does this lead to everyone having a gun in our society?” [Chicago Mayor Richard] Daley asked while speaking at a Navy Pier event. “If [the justices] think that’s the answer, then they’re greatly mistaken. Then why don’t we do away with the court system and go back to the Old West, you have a gun and I have a gun and we’ll settle it in the streets?”

Today:

Newly released data for Chicago shows that, as in Washington, murder and gun crime rates didn’t rise after the bans were eliminated — they plummeted. They have fallen much more than the national crime rate…

In the first six months of this year, there were 14% fewer murders in Chicago compared to the first six months of last year – back when owning handguns was illegal. It was the largest drop in Chicago’s murder rate since the handgun ban went into effect in 1982.

Meanwhile, the other four most populous cities saw a total drop at the same time of only 6 percent.
Similarly, in the year after the 2008 “Heller” decision, the murder rate fell two-and-a-half times faster in Washington than in the rest of the country.

Shockingly, this doesn’t seem to have registered on the national media’s radar.
