Visiting Juilliard

Visiting Juilliard offers you the chance to observe, ask questions, and experience the atmosphere and environment that makes the School unique. Juilliard encourages and welcomes prospective applicants and their families to visit us and take a tour.

PERFORMANCES

When planning a visit to The Juilliard School, you may wish to attend one of our many student performances.  Performances are open to the public, and many are free of charge.  Please visit the Calendar of Events to search for performances that will occur during your visit.  Please note, ticketing for each event is unique and is handled by the Box Office.  Please do not contact the Office of Admissions for tickets.

TOURS

General tours of The Juilliard School are available to prospective applicants (students applying in the next 2-3 years) and their guests.  Tours are offered most weekdays (Monday-Friday) at 11:45 a.m. and last approximately one hour.  Please note that tours will appear on the search page 60 days in advance, and will be open for registration 30 days before the tour date.

Current Juilliard students lead the tours and are happy to answer your questions as they show you around our classrooms, practice rooms, and performance spaces (as available). They also share their personal experiences as Juilliard students, which is especially important for guests on the tour, who are all prospective applicants and their families.

Due to limited space availability, parties are limited to three people each (two guests per prospective applicant); advance reservations are required. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate any walk-in parties for a tour.

If you are unable to attend a tour in person, or if you would like to see more before you come, we invite you to take a Virtual Tour of The Juilliard School online at any time.

  • General Tours- the tour will cover all three divisions (Dance, Drama, and Music)

The Admissions Office also offers prospective applicants (applying in the next 2-3 years) the opportunity to take division-specific tours in Dance and Drama on a few specific dates. These tours will provide visitors with a more focused experience and will allow guests to hear directly from someone going through the experience with first-hand knowledge of the training.  Please note that start times for these tours vary.

  • Dance Tours - tour given by a Division Representative
  • Drama Tours - tour given by a Division Representative

GROUP TOURS

Group tours are available on a very limited basis. Group tours during the school year (September - May) may be requested by submitting a Group Tour Request FormRequests should be submitted no less than three weeks and no more than two months in advance of the desired visit date.

The Juilliard School STRONGLY prefers to receive group tour request forms directly from the teacher or group leader, and is less inclined to arrange tours for travel agents or tour companies.

The Office of Admissions may be able to arrange a private group tour as follows:

  1. Monday - Friday only
  2. between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. (school year)
  3. the group must be 30 persons or fewer, including students and chaperones
  4. the majority of tour participants have a specific interest in The Juilliard School or are seeking a post-secondary education in the performing arts (i.e. Dance, Drama, Classical Music, Jazz Studies) and
  5. tour participants will be applying to college within the next 3 years

CLASS OBSERVATIONS (for prospective applicants only)

Dance & Musicfor prospective students who plan to apply in the next 1-2 years, arrangements to observe academic and/or performance classes can be made on a case by case basis. The request should be made at least two weeks in advance of the desired date of the visit and will need to be confirmed by the following staff prior to arrival.  Please note that, due to limited space in classrooms, requests will be considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Groups cannot be accommodated for class observations.

When e-mailing to request a class observation, please include the following information: name, age, & area of interest for the prospective applicant, and desired date of visit (and an alternate date, if possible).

Class observations are available on weekdays during the academic year (September – May) only.

Dance: Katie Friis, Sr. Asst. Dir. for Dance and Drama Admissions
E-mail: kfriis@juilliard.edu

Music: Colby Carson, Asst. Dir. for Recruitment
E-mail: ccarson@juilliard.edu

Drama — The Juilliard Drama Division has created a safe environment in which students can learn, practice and take artistic risks.  The intimate nature of the training and class size make it extremely difficult to observe these classes. For these reasons, observation of Drama Division classes cannot be arranged.
