Excursions on Saturday and Sunday, 6 and 7 August (Slovenian Karst and coast  / Slovenian Alps and lakes): for both trips the buses will depart at 8.15 from the student dormitory Dijaski dom Vic, and at 8.30 from M-Hotel. Be on time!

(UNESCO’s Skocjan caves, medieval marine town of Piran, olive oil tasting and Predjama castle)

We start the tour visiting the medieval Predjama castle situated on a craggy cliff and once home to Erazem, the Slovenian ‘Robin Hood’. From the green forests we continue to the underground world of UNESCO’s Skocjan cave believed to be among the most stunning Karst caves in the world.

We stop for lunch at a local farm tasting different varieties of home made olive oil with herbs, then we proceed to the meditteranean town of Piran. Its maze of medieval streets in the old town is a joy to explore, while only meters away is the town’s beach where you can refresh yourself after a hot summer day or simply have a cold beer in the shade.

Arrival back to Ljubljana in the evening.

Don’t forget to bring sneakers and a fleece jacket for the caves and a swimming suit for the beach.

Slovenian Alps and lakes

(Alpine lakes of Bled and Bohinj, turquise waters of Vintgar gorge and Skofja Loka town)

Today we explore the spectacular nature of the Slovenian Alpine west. Our first stop is the fairytale setting of lake Bled with a small isle in the middle and a medieval castle overlooking the Julian Alps.

From Bled we continue to the breathtaking Vintgar gorge where we do a short hike along the turquise waters of Radovna river. After a picnic lunch we go to the Bohinj lake situated in the heart of the Julian Alps. There will be time for swimming, a hike around the lake or to rent canoes (5 EUR/h).

We finish the day visiting the medieval town of Škofja Loka on the way back to Ljubljana.
