JSI canteen (Jadranska 26)
Budget-priced lunches will be offered at the Institute Josef Stefan canteen, across the street from ESSLLI site.
Student dormitory canteen (Dijaški dom Vič, Gerbičeva 51)
Budget-priced lunches (5 EUR) and diners (4 EUR) will be offered at the student dormitory – 5 minutes from the ESSLLI site.
From the ESSLLI site turn left to Jadranska ulica, cross Mencingerjeva ulica and continue straight to Vipavska ulica. Turn the first street on the right (Gerbičeva) and again right to come to Gerbičeva 51.
Spar canteen (Jamova 105, 15 min walk)
The nearby shopping center INTERSPAR is a 15-minute walk from the ESSLLI site.
From Jadranska Ulica turn left to Jamova Cesta and continue straight for about 1km. You will see the big shopping center on your left.

Mirje (Tržaška 5, 17 min)
From ESSLLI site, turn right on Jadranska ulica and turn right to the big street Tržaška cesta. Walk straight. Mirje is a not-expensive Italian restaurant with pizzas and pastas. They offer also a daily menu.

Night Life
In the old part of the city, you can find nice bars.
In August, Trnfest festival is the gathering point for young people, enjoying good athmosphere and rock/world/alternative music and theatre, all free of charge. Turnfest takes place in KUD (Karunova 14) in Trnovo part of the town.

For concert or a beer, you should not miss Metelkova mesto, the old military base which is now the center of alternative night live. You can enter from Metelkova Ulica 8.

Money
Slovenia is in the Euro zone. You can withdraw the money on bank machines, the closest one from the ESSLLI site is just on the other side of Jadranska street, outside the Josef Stefan building.
Good exchange rates are available at Nova Ljubljanska Banka (Trg Republike 2, 8 a.m.- 6 p.m., weekdays only).
Entering the country
Slovenia is a part of the Schengen zone since 2007. EU/EEA citizens do not need a passport to enter Slovenia, only a valid identity card.
