READING I went to Detroit recently on tour and went to Hitsville USA, the Motown Historical Museum, where I bought the book “Mercy, Mercy Me: The Art, Loves and Demons of Marvin Gaye.” I love Marvin Gaye. He was a phenomenal artist despite his personal struggles. I’m reading “The Great Gatsby” for the second time because I heard they’re remaking the movie.

LISTENING I listen to sermons from Joel Osteen to start my day. His messages are so inspiring. The one I listened to most recently was about believing. Osteen says to return to the place where you stopped believing — maybe believing in a business you started, or a relationship you gave up on, anything — and pick it back up again. It was so empowering. Believing is strength.

WATCHING I am watching everything on YouTube there is to watch. I get inspired by all the creativity there and can sit by the computer for hours watching video after video. I found a mashup of Adele and the Eurythmics. Amazing. The video for my song “Lay It on Me” was inspired by a Slinky video on YouTube. Yeah, Slinky the toy. I was watching the Slinky move and thinking this is so sexual and sensual. It was perfect for the video.

FOLLOWING On Twitter I follow friends and some of my fans who review things I do. And Serena Williams, I follow her. Some of her messages are so off the wall, I have to call her and ask what she’s talking about.

WEARING I just bought a pair of thigh-high boots from Nicholas Kirkwood. They are amazing and so comfortable I can perform in them. Trust and believe I’ll be wearing them every other day.

RESERVING When I’m in London I sometimes make reservations at Hakkasan for every day of the week, seriously. There is one in Miami I go to as well. The Hakka cocktail is complete heaven. It makes you smile at the paparazzi the whole way to the car.
