Opera Desktop Team

11.60 goes final

,

Opera 11.60 has been released today!cheers

The desktop team would like to thank everyone for testing and reporting issues.
If you haven't tried Opera's built-in mail client (M2) yet, now is the time to do so. Opera's mail UI has been completely revamped in Opera 11.60, is easy to setup and works well in combination with webmail services.
11.60 also features an updated version of the browser enginer (including Opera's new HTML5 parser, Ragnarök) and many improvements in the address field, including an easy way to add pages to bookmarks or speed dial.
More details about what is new in Opera 11.60 can be found in the changelogs.

Stay tuned for Opera 12 snapshots!

Thank you for all the hard works devs love the look and feel of the new release 11.60. h
Have not been testing this build as normal due to my own work commitments but have been following all the blogs with great interest. One problem which I am sure must be a bug! The new yellow bright shining star for adding bookmarks or speedials from the address bar was such a tempting new feature to try straight away, but once clicked on and activated found it impossible to close down unless I did one of two things. (1) close tab completely. (2) or add the page to my bookmarks or speedial which I had decided not to. Then opera did not exactly crash but threw up a windows library runtime error window and when this was closed windows asked if I wanted to shut down Opera, which I did. Windows 7 ultimate 32 bit.

Sorry update only happens when the bookmark drop-down menu is selected and then I decide not to save in any of the folders. Please can anyone confirm this or is it just me Happy days

All software has bugs, it's unavoidable. The only questions you need to ask:

Is it better than 11.51?
Are there no MAJOR regressions since 11.51?

If the answer is yes to both these questions, then clearly its fit for release. There is SO much good stuff in Opera 11.60, it's good to get it out to the wider audience. Some people it seems can't see the bigger picture...

It's all about moving forward and not getting hung up on things that are not important. It's also about scheduling bugs. If your bug is to do with some functionality that is due a rewrite in say Opera 12 (or 13), then it would be insanity to use resources to fix it now (unless it was uber-critical), you would simply write a test-case to ensure it gets tested as part of the future functionality rewrite.

Now lets get them 12 snapshots rolling!!! :-)

Thank you for finally fixing the Myspace band profiles. cool I'll check if there is a new (or old) glitch on that site maybe.

Nice to see the improvement in M2. I gave up M2 because I was obliged to keep several Mb of attachments together with a few Kb of text. Any improvement on this front?

joshas Tuesday, December 6, 2011 8:55:34 AM

Just updated on Linux - looks like theme has changed a bit and ... OMG HUGE SCROLL BAR!!!

Cristiancristianer Tuesday, December 6, 2011 8:55:45 AM

It's really fast! But I found a bug:

When I tried to write a comment in the box of a game page (Erepublik), the box started to make itself bigger and bigger. I don't know why sad

I used the mail client for the past four years. This is by far the worst look ever. Tabs that indicate month and year of the message should be eliminated. Also the message headline (title) text should remain as it was before - in one line. Browsing look to be a bit faster smile

Click the wrench icon on the message toolbar and turn off "group by date".

Both of those seem to work fine for me in this build. For Unite, I tried the Media Player app.

Next bug (connected with secure connection indicator). This is only one example:

OK now it works. It was something wrong with my Opera after upgraded to a new version.

Click the wrench icon on the mail panel toolbar and reset the mail panel to defaults. Or, right-click the header for the "All Messages" access point, goto "customize" and enable "sent" and "trash". Do the same for any POP access points you have.

For IMAP folders, goto "Menu -> mail -> imap folders" and make sure you're subscribed to them.

Fullscreen mode is still broken in Windows XP Home SP3 with Windows XP Theme, i.e. entering fullscreen mode with F11 shows the title bar and restores the window.

Leave fullscreen > Enter fullscreen & Set alignment, "document toolbar",6

Default keyboard setup also fails.

Enter fullscreen | Leave fullscreen

I tested on Win7, so don't know about WinXP.

Edit: Tested on WinXP in VirtualBox and can confirm.

Rafael Luikrafaelluik Tuesday, December 6, 2011 9:34:45 AM

Congrats for the release, as I said earlier it was a very good move to keep people with the newest technologies...

Flash looks faster, the star menu made adding pages to the Speed Dial even easier, there are some little UI improvements, there are many under the hood goodies and you made the new Mail (M2) very customizable for the ones who want to have the layout of the previous iteration. up

People who are complaining about what they call "bugs" happily were already well answered.

Well, you may know it, I'll be skipping updating Opera until the address field auto-complete drop-down become "usable" again. This is my recommendation to you that are being affected by something you don't like and can't customize up to until now or are experiencing a bug: simply wait for the next releases.

Opera, you deserve success so much!! flirt

Fullscreen mode with F11 works for me as well (Windows XP SP3) if it's correct that there is no scrollbar then.

Myspace never stops loading if I'm logged in and visit my band page (155/156 elements). If I visit another profile, Opera loads all elements, so it might have to do with the automatic Customize mode which is used on the own band profile when logged in. The profile itself looks complete though.

YouTube showed a similar behaviour for several minutes (did not stop loading on my own profile when logged in), but has now finally finished loading. It might have been the undefined Google map in the event section which did not load in time, as there are no current events to show. I'm still using the old channel design there, by the way.

JanGen Tuesday, December 6, 2011 9:42:36 AM

Super, thx for this release.

Now my main install is updated I experience an enormous speed increase in page loading. Much faster!

And the new mail layout seems to be an improvement too.

smile

Great Scott! Downloading now. Thank you for another good release!

Michael Lennartzmlennartz Tuesday, December 6, 2011 9:50:09 AM

I went back to 11.52.

Problems:
- Cannot sign in to ipernity.com
- The loading icon doesn't stop turning.
- 11.60 seems to be slower then 11.52.

(WinXP)

Thank you for this bugfix: DSK-349986 gnome-settings-daemon exits if Opera has something in its clipboard on exit.
It was really really annoying....

If the mail list/message separator is moved, the message subject causes a screen redraw problem.

Possible installer bug:
Installer wants to set Opera as default browser (by default) even when Opera is not set as default browser right now. For me its kinda intrusive behaviour. sad

Mail attachments cannot be saved, tested on windows 7 and 2003, just like the 12.00 snapshot.

11.52 works well.

* webglSphere still doesn't work (check Peacekeeper)

PS: Is Peacekeeper a bit more neutral than sunspider (Webkit), Kraken (Mozilla), V8 (Chrome) in benchmarking?

MossMan Tuesday, December 6, 2011 10:52:09 AM

Just discovered an annoying (but not severe) little mail bug:

If you're editing a mail, switch to another program and switch back, focus is lost. I have to click the bloody text with the mouse again before I can continue typing!

Anyone confirm?

TA5K Tuesday, December 6, 2011 10:52:24 AM

Firstly, thanks for the final release.

Sorry, my question in the RC2 wasn't answered, so I repost it here:

When I set a proxy in "Advanced / Network / Proxy Servers" and load a page it works like expected, the page uses the proxy. I recheck it via F12 + "Edit Site preferences / Network / Use Proxy" = "Yes" ... perfect.

Now I go back to "Advanced / Network / Proxy Servers" and disable the proxy. I open a new Tab (with a page I never visited), the page loads BUT Opera uses still the (disabled) proxy ?!? I recheck again by pressing F12 in "Edit Site preferences / Network / Use Proxy" and it's still set "Yes" ... NOT good sad

And sometimes I think the F12 setting is completely ignored, because even if it's on "Yes" it seams that the global setting is actually used ?!

Can anyone confirm?
