  • Not an Emmy Award

The "most dramatic moment in television history" was not mentioned during the broadcast ; apparently it occurred during a commercial break. As a result, the Emmy’s record for snubbing Buffy is untarnished.

Also, this was a web site poll result, not an Emmy award. They would never stoop so low as to recognize a program that the unwashed masses had made into a cultural icon.

Buffy has previously won at least two emmys in its run. One for makeup in "Innocence", and notably, one for Christophe Beck’s score for "Becoming, Part I".

  • Of all the times I have posted a comment here, I have never actually seen one posted by someone else until right now. But uh, I’m confoooosed, did Buffy episode #100 win an Emmy or not ??? I remember voting for this a couple weeks ago (about 15 times) and wondered if it would influence the Emmy’s on tv, I guess it didn’t. I mean whomever wrote the comment ahead of mine says so anyway. Not that I believe everything I see in print mind you. I’m just saying...I’m confused.

You can go to the official Emmys web site, and download the list of awards and winners. There is no "Most Dramatic Moment in Television History" award category, and thus no Emmy for the "winner".

The Emmys released a PR document (which you can find at the same site), that announced the poll. It was strictly a way to increase viewers.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS) which runs the prime time Emmys is itself a PR arm of the industry. As such, the awards are not really awards in any case (they are not independent recognition). ATAS’ function is to use the award process to create the cultural icons by raising public awareness : "Ooo ! This show MUST be good ! It won 5 Emmys !"

They have no interest in recognizing actual cultural icons. That’s why shows like Star Trek (still going over 40+ years) and Buffy the Vampire Slayer have never been recognized.
