Jay Cutler wasn’t the only Bears captain to sustain a significant injury in Sunday’s win over the Chargers.
Long-snapper Patrick Mannelly will miss the rest of the season with a ruptured ACL he suffered on an extra-point attempt midway through the second quarter.
Fullback Tyler Clutts filled in admirably for Mannelly against the Chargers, snapping on a punt for the first time since high school. The Bears are expected to work out a couple long-snappers, but may ultimately keep Clutts in that role.
“He finished up and did a good job," Smith said. "But we’ll also look outside a little bit with that too. If Tyler is our snapper, we’ll feel good with him. But we have other options right now. We’re going to look at all of those.”
Also on Monday, the Bears waived undrafted rookie defensive end Mario Addison.
