Welcome everyone to the second installment of our time-traveling, space-warping round up of all the news we could find about the world’s most popular Timelord, Doctor Who. And there’s a ton of news to get through because, remember: this article is bigger on the inside.

ITEM! Who Christmas Special Prequel Released
The prequel To "The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe" has just been released by the BBC.  Check it out here:

ITEM! New Who Christmas Special Pics

BBC America now has a gallery up of 19 different pictures from the Doctor Who 2011 Christmas Special – titled “The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe,” – meaning we’re now nineteen frames closer to creating a flip-book of the show and watching it early. Though one of those pictures is a promo pic of the Doctor opening a very TARDIS looking present, and another is that “running down the hallway” picture we’ve already seen. Read more...

Okay, everybody commence no longer freaking out about the Doctor Who movie. Or maybe do it anyway. I dunknow. Point is, current showrunner Steven Moffat tweeted this out this morning:

“To clarify: any Doctor Who movie would be made by the BBC team, star the current TV Doctor and certainly NOT be a Hollywood reboot.”

For those of you not quite up on the news, Harry Potter Director David Yates told Variety he was working with BBC in Los Angeles to develop a total reboot of the Doctor Who franchise, probably for 2013 or so… Though there were no other details, the “reboot” plus mentioning being open to an American screenwriter (disgusting!) raised the Internet’s collective back-bristles. Take a comic book, put it on TV, and the fans go nuts. Take a TV show and adapt it to a comic and… Not so much. Mainly because most of them are shockingly bad. That said? There’s been a few TV to comic book adaptations that don’t just not suck, they’re actually good. Here are ten of the best:

10. True Blood

IDW’s recent comics based on the sweaty, dirty HBO vampire series may lack the wall-to-wall nudity, but they make up for it in crazy creatures and buckets of blood. It’s tough to nail the voices of “real” characters, but these comics do it swimmingly… Fake sounding Southern accents and all.

9. Supernatural

Welcome everyone to the first installment of our time-traveling, space-warping round up of all the news we could find about the world’s most popular Timelord, Doctor Who. And there’s a ton of news to get through because, remember: this article is bigger on the inside.

ITEM! No Doctor Who Christmas Confidential This Year (Maybe)
According to the always reliable The Sun, the Doctor Who Confidential episode (a documentary on the making of the show, in case you don’t know) that was supposed to accompany this year’s Christmas Special has been scrapped… Despite already being filmed and mostly completed. That said, the show itself was already cancelled back in September, and the BBC claims they had no idea the show was even being made. Sounds like someone fiddling with space-time to me…

ITEM! Christmas Special Broadcast On Christmas!
Item! Above Item not a surprising Item! That said, BBC officially announced that they’ll be broadcasting the Christmas Special – titled “The Doctor, The Widow, and The Wardrobe” - on Christmas Day at 7pm, while BBC America will show it to us at 9pm ET. So no spoilers, sweeties. Read more...

Are you ready for more Doctor Who than can fit in an entire TARDIS? Then you’ll want to snag ‘Doctor Who: The Complete Sixth Series’ now on stands… Particularly because it’s the best season of the show yet. Yeah, I said it.

One big reason this is a must buy for all Who fans? The Sixth Series is easily the best looking one so far, expanding on the complex visual pallete of last season, and making the show look like the Big Budget movie we all want it to be (unless, of course, we’re talking about the big budget movie in development, in which case Boo! Hiss! And so on).

But it’s the content that makes this season so great…. Yes, there’s “Curse of the Black Spot” in there, the wincingly bad, budget friendly episode set on a pirate ship in the fog. But there’s also some of the best episodes the show has ever done, from the heartbreaking, stunningly original “A Christmas Carol,” to Neil Gaiman’s superb “The Doctor’s Wife.” Oh, and then there’s also “The Wedding of River Song,” for my money, the best finale in the show’s recent history.

That’s not all your getting though, to devolve even more into sales speak that I already have (and believe me, I only get a small cut of every DVD sold… Twenty, thirty percent tops). Previously, the season was released as three DVDs, with minimal frills: one for the Christmas Special; and one for each half of the season. The Complete Sixth Series collection packs an insane amount of extras on six disks, literally everything that has come out from Doctor Who in the past year (with one exception).

You get all the webisodes, several additional scenes, commentaries, and 15 episodes of the excellent Doctor Who Confidential… Though in shortened 10 minute format, rather than the full 45 minutes broadcast in the UK. I assume this is vengeance for that war we won a few centuries ago or something. Read more...

Want to get your first, good look at the Doctor Who 2011 Christmas Special? Good luck. Instead, we have the first official still from the BBC which shows a silhouetted figure doing… Something. Mysterious!

Okay, fine, it’s The Doctor running away from some fire, using his sonic screwdriver. But what else is going on here, while we try to drag out this post as long as possible? Well, the portals he’s running through are circular, so this definitely isn’t the Cube from Cube, or the sequel to the movie Cube – though it could be Cube: Zero, which showed that the first Cube had circular doors, before they developed square door technology. You guys all know the Canadian horror series Cube, right? Great. Read more...

Are you ready for two days of peace, love, and Daleks? Then get set for the first ever Official Doctor Who Convention, March 24 and 25 in Cardiff, Wales!

The two day event has only a few details announced already, mainly that Doctor Who himself – Matt Smith – and showrunner/Executive Producer Steven Moffat will be in attendance throughout the weekend… But that’s pretty much it. However, you don’t want to wait for more info to buy tickets: only 1500 are available per day, and they’re going quick.

There’s a couple of quirks we’ll get to in a second (this is a UK convention after all, and they are nothing if not quirky), but here’s what you’ll get with your ticket, according to the official site: Read more...

The Internet basically imploded earlier today when Variety released a report that Harry Potter Director David Yates was working on a reimagined, movie version of Doctor Who. Sure, this rumor crops up every few years or so, and always causes the Internet to explode (before the Internet? Dungeons and Dragons tables or something)… But this time, it was through Variety, and with a top name (English) Director attached, adding some veracity to the report.

"Russell T. Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch," Yates told Variety in their report. "We want a British sensibility, but having said that, Steve Kloves wrote the Potter films and captured that British sensibility perfectly, so we are looking at American writers too.”

…Which is a huge problem, because as we frequent watchers of Who know, the good Doctor travels in a flat powered by crisps, NOT an apartment powered by french fries. Anyway.

Then, later on in the day, both the BBC and the Doctor Who Insider magazine tweeted that things are in development as they always are, essentially discrediting the Variety report. Which means one of three things:

1) Variety has some info on this that the BBC doesn’t want getting out yet.

2) David Yates is idly working on an idea for a Doctor Who movie, but it’s not official.

3) Something has happened to the fabric of time and space!
