Anyone know of any good books or authors that are reminiscent of these types of movies (guy humor)?

I'd like to hear some recommendations too-- that's definitely my kind of humor, but I think it's hard to pull off consistently in a book.

I Am Better Than Your Kids is that kind of humor (not a story though-- mostly just a book making fun of kids' art!).

You're probably already familiar with it, but then there's the stuff by Tucker Max, like I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (movie tie-in): with 16 page photo insert, basically created the genre of frat humor memoirs. I'm not crazy about it myself (sometimes it seems like the point of the story is just to be a jerk), but many, many readers love him.

Yeah, I've read that. It was definitely funny. I would just like to see something with characters and a story line. There's plenty of funny books out there, but I feel like this whole genre is missing.

I agree with you. I think some things are easier to do in a movie or live. I do stand-up and half of what seems to make things funny is delivery-- well, in a book, you just get the words. So those words better be hilarious... And then to add a plot and characters?

There are some funny books that do that (Mark Twain, Douglas Adams, John Irving), but it's definitely a different kind of clever. I think a Tucker Max-type that writes good fiction would be really popular...
