NYC's First 2012 Murder Was In Bed-Stuy

The 2012 murder season in New York City started with a bang yesterday. After a violent New Year's Eve the NYPD says 45-year-old Andrew Brown, found dead in his Brooklyn apartment building's hallway before the new year saw its first noon, is the first murder victim of the new year.

Brown was discovered a little after 9 a.m. yesterday morning on the sixth floor of his Fulton Street apartment building in Bed-Stuy with gunshot wounds to his chest (the Daily News has a graphic picture—if that is your thing). He was pronounced dead on the scene and police are still investigating the incident.

Way back in 2011 the NYPD was very proud of its low 500 murder count. Sadly, a new murder within twelve hours of the ball dropping is not the most auspicious start towards getting even lower numbers in 2012.

Make Bed-Stuy its own city.  Watch murder, rape, robbery rates plunge.
