App Store Update: December 16

Every day hundreds of new apps make their debut on the App Store, and hundreds more are updated or reduced in price. We have sifted through the noise and highlighted those select few that might be worth your attention.

Marathon 1 (Free)
Marathon 2: Durandal (Free)
Bungie's classic FPS titles are available on iOS! In the early 90s when Doom was dominating PCs, Marathon was Mac gaming's big highlight. The games are free downloads with optional in-app purchases like "HD Mode."

FiTS by Reiner Knizia ($1.99)
Another abstract Knizia-designed puzzle game is available on iOS.

Trenches II ($1.99)
The indie line-drawing strategy game Trenches is back, but now the sequel is being published by EA.

The Adventures of TinTin ($6.99)
Gameloft's movie tie-in is available now. Tintin is hard to classify – the title is part adventure, part stealth, and part action.

The Sims FreePlay (Free)
EA's free-to-play Sims social game that IGN exclusively revealed last month is now available!

Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World HD ($6.99)
This colorful point and click PC adventure has been ported to iPad.

Breakout Boost (Free)
Atari's iOS arcade revivals continue, this time with Breakout receiving the remake treatment. The base game is free, with three $0.99 in-app purchases unlocking extra modes and options.

Tiny Places ($0.99)
Big Fish Games inow has an action physics game of its own, with this colorful sling-shotting title.

Pinball HD Collection (Free)
Pinball HD collection is arguably the best digital iPad pinball sim out there. Note that all seven tables within this app must be purchases for $0.99, with Wild West pinball included for free. If you only pick up one, we recommend Da Vinci Pinball.

SummitX Snowboarding ($4.99)
SummitX's semi-realistic snowboarding action is a new direction for Korean mobile game powerhouse Com2Us.


Judge Dredd Vs. Zombies (Free)
That was fast. Just two weeks after its debut, Judge Dredd Vs. Zombies has gone free for a limited time.

Ash ($0.99)
jRPG Ash is 80% off to celebrate the game's huge version 2.0 update. The game's artwork has been rebuilt from the ground-up!

Monopoly Here & Now (Free)
Fifa Soccer 12 ($0.99)
Peggle HD ($0.99)
EA's daily deals roll on, with Monopoly available free and FIFA Soccer significantly discounted. Gamers can save a few dollars on Peggle as well.

King of Opera (Free)
In King of Opera gamers "Control a wildly spinning tenor with ONE BUTTON PRESS." If that isn't worth a free download I don't know what is.

Broken Sword - The Smoking Mirror: Remastered ($0.99)
This classic adventure game can be nabbed for just $0.99 - $6 off!

Mega Mall Story ($0.99)
Mega Mall Story is arguably Kairosoft's best sim title yet, and it can be nabbed for just $0.99 to celebrate the launch of Venture Towns.

War on Terror ($1.99)
Satirical iOS board game War on Terror is over 50% off for the Holiday season.

Drawn: The Painted Tower ($2.99)
This gorgeous and dream-like point & click adventure game is over 50% off for one day only.

Asphalt 6: Adrenalin (Free)
Gameloft's Asphalt 6 is once again available free of charge.
