Nintendo's 3DS sold more units in December than any other console since Enterbrain began tracking figures back in 1997.

According to Andriasang, a whopping 1,492,931 3DS consoles were sold between November 28 and December 25.

But that's not all, the console has also been the best-selling piece of hardware for the last seven months, and has remained unchallenged at the top of the hardware charts ever since its controversial price-cut in August.

In comparison, PlayStation Vita was the second best-selling piece of hardware, shifting 402,794 units after it was released on December 17.
