As pharmaceutical industries play an essential role in saving human lives, investment for new medicine factory will not be permitted in Myanmar while investment for under licensed medicines is allowed. Myanmar Investment Committee Chairman U Thein Soe said the committee would permit investors to establish pharmaceutical industries that would produce medicines systematically as Myanmar spends about US$ 160 million on medicine and medical equipments yearly. At the meeting with media held in Nay Pyi Taw on 26 October, Minister for Industry No. 1 and No. 2 and Chairman of MIC said, “Medicines are important for human lives. Production of new medicine requires long-term experiments from different fields. So, investment for new medicines will not be permitted in Myanmar, but under-license medicines will be permitted to produce here. For example, under license medicine from countries such as England, Japan, Korea, etc will be allowed to produce under CMP system. Myanmar has to import about US$ 160 million worth of medicine and medical equipment every year.” The minister also reminded investors that they will not be allowed to produce fake medicines as the pharmaceutical industry is important for saving human lives. |
