Crime and Safety
I have provided leadership in the legislature as Chairman of the Senate Judiciary B Committee for the past seven years. I have worked to increase penalties for crimes against children and vulnerable adults, to reform juvenile justice laws and to support our law enforcement officers.
I have also worked on legislation to curb the “meth” drug epidemic has led to a 66% decrease in meth labs across the state. Additionally, I supported the creation of “drug courts” which were created as an alternative to jail time for first time, non-violent drug offenders who have to comply with strict supervision over a period of time by the court.
My work to protect our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms is reflected in my endorsement and A rating by the National Rifle Association.
