As you jet-set around the world, you will pass over six continents before you even pass GO! Wheel and deal in the most exotic cities and exciting cities with property values in the millions! It's a fun twist on a classic board games favorite!

The World Awaits
Instead of buying properties like St. James Place and Vermont Avenue, in this online board games version of MONOPOLY, you're buying cities from around the world, like Rome and Barcelona.

Property Management
The goal of this MONOPOLY game is simple: Make as much money as you can, and drive your opponents into bankruptcy.

Travel the Globe
Travel around the board buying properties that aren't owned and paying rent on properties that are owned by other people.

Classic Favorite
Underneath the new property names and the new currency, this is still the same old MONOPOLY board games you've known and loved for years.

When it's your turn in MONOPOLY, you click the "Roll" button to roll the dice and move your MONOPOLY piece the number of spaces indicated on your roll. What happens next depends on the space you land on...

Un-owned property
You can buy the property if you want. If not, the property will get auctioned off to the highest bidder.

Property owned by somebody else
Like the classic board game, you pay the owner rent. The amount of rent you pay depends on whether the space is part of a complete color group or has any houses or hotels or it.

Mortgaged Property
You don't need to pay rent. (Woo hoo!)

Income Tax or Luxury Tax space
You'll need to pay either 2.00M, or 1.00M, respectively.

Community Chest or Chance card
Draw the next card off the deck and do what it says.

If you land on or pass GO, you collect 2.00M!

Jail
Spend some time in the Just Visiting area.

Free Parking
According to official MONOPOLY board game rules, nothing happens. But we know that lots of you like playing with the rule that gives you cash if you land on Free Parking. So in many versions of our house rules, you'll get some money for landing on Free Parking.

Go To Jail
Go to jail! Without a trial even. Boo!

If you roll doubles, then at the end of your current move, you get to roll again. And if you roll doubles after that, you get to roll again. But if you roll doubles three times in a row, you get sent to jail. (Too much of a good thing...)

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Monopoly The World Edition player.

For those of you who are used to playing classic MONOPOLY board game, you might have noticed the "10% of your wealth" option has gone away on the Income Tax space. It's always just 2.00M now.

One of the keys to winning this MONOPOLY online board game is to collect all the properties in the same color group and build houses and hotels on them. That'll increase the rents and make you the most money.

Some tricky MONOPOLY players won't build hotels. They'll just put as many houses as they can on all the properties they own, so that there aren't any left for their opponents to use!

If you have a choice between mortgaging a property or selling houses and hotels, you should mortgage all you can first. It's a much better deal.

Expert MONOPOLY players like to get out of jail quickly at the beginning of the game, so they don't miss a chance to buy properties. But they sometimes like to stay in jail later in the game because they can avoid paying rent on other players' properties.

If you need to raise cash and want to do it in a jiffy, click the "Mortgage/Sell" button, and then click the Auto Mortgage button in the window that appears.

Nominating a player can be a nice way of wrapping up a game when it's obvious that somebody's going to win. It helps prevent the losing players from getting bored and leaving the game.

I thought the whole point was to prevent others from building any way you could? The custom room is a lot of fun as you can change the game settings... If I'm doing well, I'll buy that mortaged property just to stop the other player from getting it in BR. If it makes them mad, well then a lot of things is life must honestly pull their chain.... I abslutely refuse to sell a piece of property unless it's a good move for me. Computer players don't whine and complain either. Over all it's a pretty good game. I win my share, but then there are those games when nothing I do can prevent me from going bust.... Want to pull their chain put them on ignore! lol

Did you hit "Stand Up" when you went on a break? If so, a computer starts playing for you while you watch. Remember to hit the "Sit Down" button again after you are done with your break, or else that robot will keep playing!

I have seen a bug, though, where I couldn't sit back down. I had to lose my game :( But then I just started a new game :)

Monopoly H&N: World Edition • Re: Online Monopoly Tournament?

I don't see Pogo organizing this, but you may wish to google "Pogo Monopoly Leagues". There may already be a similar tournament in place.

Just for information, leagues are not supported by Pogo, but rather organized by other entities composed of Pogo members.

Monopoly H&N: World Edition • What's with the bots (With there bugginess)

By OB1Cannoli87 » January 6th, 2012, 10:05 pm

AI's are meant to me to bug us and annoy us sometimes. I believe this is one of those examples. Pogo should change the AI to a player who can actually play fair. Examples:
Trading unfairly with players and AI
Making annoying choices with building houses (Build one at a time and when a player comes, they have 2 houses and 100M Money)
and, last, they have better odds sometimes. It's the same in Risk, too!

From the perspective of someone who has read about purported protocols in many games (including betting before the flop in Texas Hold 'Em and blackouts in passing rooms in Everyone Wins Bingo), my opinion is:

If the rules of the game allow you to do an action, that action is part of the game and allowed.

Since there are no table settings to regulate how robot trades occur, the players will do whatever is permitted within the rules of the game.

You and a group of friends can certainly play a certain agreed-upon way, but don't expect other players to follow your methods.

The robots are a pain to trade with, and they cheat when they trade with each other :x , but they are what we have to play against when we don't play with actual people.

Seska, i think robots are a pain in my butt too, but we can't change them. AI's were sort of meant to bug us and make games harder and every once in a while that is just annoying.

What does everyone think about having a semi-organized Monopoly tournament here? I’m thinking that all the players who enter would be matched up randomly so that each participates in a fixed number of games (maybe 25 or so, as there’s a good degree of luck involved in any one game). In each game there would be X1 points given to the winner, X2 for second, X3 for surviving third, X4 for surviving fourth and zero for bankruptcy. There would be rules governing fair play (e.g., always play to win, stay in the game even if you’re losing, no robbing the bots if someone drops, no “sore loser” trades where you give it all away to one player because you’re mad at the others). At the end of all the games the scores would be tallied and ranks announced.

I think something like this would be fun. Thoughts?

Sluggo, i COMPLETELY agree. I think maybe 100 players in the tourtament and battle every day and watchers can swap from table to table. 25 Tables with 4 at each. No quitting, but, if u are bankrupt u will be considered in the tourtament until the 50 are over. Prizes are:
100 T for 10
250 for 9
500 for 8
1000 for 7
2500 for 6
5000 for 5
10000 for 4
25000 for 3
50000 for 2
100000 for 1
Bankrupt players get only 10 T

My guess is that they didn't.

One of the numbers isn't counting correctly, either the board counter that shows the GO count in-game or the rank GO counter. I don't know for sure whether you are losing times around GO to the rank counter or gaining GOs randomly that you didn't actually earn on the in-game counter. The rank GO counter seems to me to be the one that gets remembered, so that's the only one that really counts.

have you checked to see if your table settings have been changed? or are you playing under a different tab "Pogo-official-Family-Speedy-Custom" than you normally do? different game tabs set different rules. i play under "custom" and my game seems to be just fine. good luck :)

Monopoly H&N: World Edition • monopoly board game

By philipjcormier » January 3rd, 2012, 12:13 pm

It seems there is a bug in the monopoly board game. When you come back from a break, the timer is set at 5 seconds or so and you don't have a chance to have your turn, the computer does it. If you land on a unowned property it usually goes straight to auction. This bug has been going on for several months at the least.
Unless the bug was installed on purpose to get people to join club pogo out of frustration, it should be addressed.

You can play without a timer by selecting the Custom tab and making sure no time limit is selected, the Official tab or possibly one of the other tabs. I almost always play Official, so I'm not familiar with which versions do or do not have a time limit. I'm sure it's mentioned somewhere, such as in How to Play.
