Welcome to Fun Run in the Sun!

Follow Charlie Garlow as he travels across the US in his solar-electric powered Extreme Bug-E. Charlie will be traveling with his puppy Rex, and will stop along the way to show the virtues of solar power and driving electric. In tow, will be a 1kw solar trailer to extend the vehicle's range. Charlie will be keeping track of his travels in Charlie's Blog which you can access from this website. The Journey will kick off in late May from the Capital Mall in Washington DC and finish up in California.

Charlie was recently awarded as a Solar Hero by the American Solar Energy Society.

The Extreme Bug-E is an enhanced version of a kit called the BugE. See www.bugev.net for pictures of similar vehicles and to order your kit. To extend the range of the vehicle we will be building a trailer comprised of solar panels and a spare battery pack.

Jerry Asher will drive the chase/lead vehicle, which is Jerry’s plug in
hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), a converted Toyota Prius, which Jerry
has already driven all around America in 2008-09, to demonstrate to the benefits and practicality of PHEVs. See www.phev3A.com for pictures and details of Jerry’s journey, and fantastic mileage.

Fun Run In The Sun also supports other renewable and sustainable efforts such as Repower America. Help spread the word.

Those who have gone before

In July 2007 Lewis Palmer set off on his journey around the world with the Solar Taxi. The idea was to demonstrate to the world just how dire the global climate situation has become and how many sophisticated solutions to lower the greenhouse gases already exist, which bring with them many other advantages. So that we can have a better world and a more secure future. The solar taxi provided hope and proved that every single person can take a step towards preserving our planet.
