SaintlyTees Giveaway

Check out the new Christian Baby/Toddler Clothes

Recently I got an email from Danielle. “These look super cute. Do you want to check them out?” I scrolled down to the rest of the email and read about a new baby and toddler clothing line called, SaintlyTees.

I clicked over to the website and was excited to see all the brightly colored children’s clothing. Each shirt has a cute illustration with a scripture verse or Christian saying on the bottom.... READ MORE

Psalms Beyond the 23rd

Let's share our favorite verses

What I like best about praying the Divine Office is that is has made me familiar with many of the psalms. The Church says that the psalms give expression to every state of the human heart, And I’ve certainly found that to be true. Here are a few of my favorites:

“As they go through the bitter valley, they make it a place of springs (Ps.84) a lovelier version of “when life give you lemons ...” it reminds... READ MORE

When the Word Is Clear

Does God hit you in the head until you get it?

So, sometimes it takes me a while. Yesterday, I was drawn to this Bible passage (which begins with Jesus cursing the fig tree) ...

“Have faith in God. Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe... READ MORE

A Light in the Darkness

Power outage? Search for the candles ... and the Lord

A week of snowstorms was capped off yesterday by an ice event that sank our day’s plans — and eventually our power lines.

Late in the afternoon, the local electrical grid finally gave in, and we found ourselves without heat or light for many hours. We groused, lamented about lost computer usage and limited dinner options, and then settled in with candles and flashlights.

But it’s funny how we see... READ MORE

Abortion Is Wrong, You Say?

Hey, don't take my word for it ... just ask God

I came across this great post today by LifeTeen’s Mark Hart.

So often, our words fail us in the face of the evil of abortion. Not because we’re cowards in speaking out. But because, as human beings, we simply do not have the words to wrap around this atrocity to say enough. We do not have the words to express what our hearts are screaming.

So we turn to God. Every time. We turn to him in prayer for... READ MORE

Word!

Last Thursday, the Pope released Verbum Domini, the “most important document on Scripture to be released since Vatican II.”

Here’s a short piece featuring highlights of its contents and why it’s so important.

In addition to theological reflections on the Word and correctives to false interpretations, the document is chock-a-block with practical suggestions and recommendations for making Scripture... READ MORE

Seventy-Seven Times

On brotherly forgiveness

We read that we ought to forgive our enemies; but we do not read that we ought to forgive our friends.  Francis Bacon

The scene played itself out this morning as it does about four times per week.  The younger brother, anxious to get out the door to school early so he could have time with his friends.  The older brother—the chauffeur—nursing a bad case of “senioritis” and wanting to eek out every... READ MORE

"We Shall Be Like Him"

Hope from the Scriptures

This was the New Testament reading from Evening Prayer last night:

See what love the Father has bestowed on us in letting us be called children of God!
Yet that is what we are.
The reason the world does not recognize us is that it never recognized the Son.
Dearly beloved,
we are God’s children now;
what we shall later be has not yet come to light.
We know that when it comes to light
we shall be like... READ MORE

Open Your Day, Insert Prayer

A 3-minute retreat might be just what you need

Lisa’s post yesterday about finding the perfect prayer time reminded me of a nifty little resource I like to use when life is busy and I find myself staring at a computer screen for way too long:

3-Minute Retreats from Loyola Press.

These mini retreats are an organized way to take a break from work and re-focus yourself with Scripture and prayer. You control how quickly you move through the brief... READ MORE

How Nativity Really Happened

where's all that in the Bible?

I have a priest friend who wants to write a book about all the stuff we think’s in the Bible that isn’t: the “apple” in Eden, St. Paul falling from his horse (what horse?). Here’s the same idea, applied to the Christmas story. (With a polite nod to Creative Minority Report)
