Deviled Eggs Dressed Up
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Food on Wednesday, January 18, 2012
Smitten Kitchen is my favorite food blog, and last month she had recipe for Caesar salad deviled eggs that I bookmarked immediately. Then I got busy with cooking for Christmas and forgot all about it.
Fast forward to January when - having resolved to add protein to my diet - I pulled the recipe up again, only to discover upon careful reading that it’s fairly fussy. It involves two pans and a mixing... READ MORE
Christmas Breakfast
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Wednesday, December 21, 2011
I’m working on my shopping list for Christmas Day eats and wondering what everyone else likes to eat Christmas morning.
This year, I’m doing a make-ahead strata to pop in the oven before we start opening gifts, along with some bread and cinnamon rolls and fruit (for “balance”).
What works best for your family? If you have any delicious, easy breakfast recipes to share, please do!

I bought a big container of paprika last week.
I freely admit I was overcome by nostalgia for this old-fashioned tin like the ones my mom used to keep; our local grocery usually doesn’t stock them.
Only once I was home did it occur to me I have no idea what to do with it.
Besides sprinkling it on deviled eggs.
Actually, I do have one recipe to share: my paternal grandmother’s simple and soothing... READ MORE

A Summer Treat When Summer's Over
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Food on Tuesday, October 11, 2011
We’re enjoying a short flashback here (high of 78 today!) but by the calendar, summer is over.
Every year I’m saddened to realize that, yet again, I didn’t get a chance to make s’mores. (We have a gas grill, so it’s harder than when I was a kid and the embers in our charcoal grill pretty much commanded us to roast marshmallows over them.)
S’mores are delicious. Their season is short. I should take... READ MORE
High There, Biscuits
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Food on Monday, October 03, 2011
You know what’s good? Biscuits. And I love to make them. Five ingredients, a few minutes to put them together, and I’ve got delicious baked goodness fresh from my oven.
But I long ago gave up on flaky biscuits in favor of fluffy dropped ones, because I could not get the hang of the rolled ones. Somehow mine always turned out flat and puck-like.
I recently had a whim and gave flaky biscuits another... READ MORE
Simpler Than Pie
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Food on Thursday, September 29, 2011
Last week Daria mentioned apple pie and I sighed a little. I will probably get some pie this year when my mom or my sister makes it, but I have no time to make it myself.
Luckily, I remembered how much I love this easy tart recipe. I shared it last summer as a recipe for peach tart, and this is a slight adaptation for apple season. I think it’s perfect - crumbly crust and tender baked apples in sweet... READ MORE

September 26th has been declared by President Obama as a day for our nation to reflect “...on the blessings of family and participating in family activities that strengthen relationships between children and parents”.
The fine folks at E-mealz are celebrating all week and as part of their Proud to be a Family campaign, they’re offering free recipes and fun activities and lots of linky round-ups.

Apple Time Is Here!
Posted by DariaSockey in Food on Wednesday, September 21, 2011
You can tell you’re in the Sockey home in September through November by sense of smell alone.
Apples are bound to be on the menu in some form or another several days a week. My top three are apple pie, apple crisp, and apple sauce. Apples will also appear in salads, and now and again I serve Fried Apples ‘n’ Onions as a side dish, in homage to Laura Ingalls Wilders’ very hungry Almanzo in Farmer... READ MORE
