Sweet Victory

I appreciated Rebecca’s post about finding the bliss of the Christmas season. It always amazes me how I can so clearly remember the meltdowns and epic failures, but sometimes forget to note those moments of perfection, however brief they may be.
But her post did just that for me—it reminded me of one of the highlights of our Christmas celebration. It was actually during Advent, the feast of Our Lady... READ MORE
Peace Out

Yesterday, I was in my typical Sunday morning frenzy. Rushing to get ready for Mass, a list a mile long rattled around in my head. So much to do, and so little time…
Off we went to 9:30 Mass, Greg and I. Every other Sunday, we attend Mass both at 9:30 and at 6:00, since Greg plays music in the morning, and Greg and Adam play at the nighttime Mass. For the past several weeks, one of my Sunday morning... READ MORE
Remembering One Bishop, Welcoming Another
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Monday, December 05, 2011
Today, I will pause my workday to attend 12:15 mass at our beautiful cathedral in remembrance of Bishop John T. Steinbock, who died one year ago today. During the past year, our diocese has mourned his loss, prayed for our new Bishop, and been ably and faithfully led by Msgr. Myron Cotta.
Last week, early Thursday morning, we received the happy news of the appointment of our new shepherd—- Bishop Armando X. Ochoa... READ MORE
Pope Benedict XVI on Children and Prayer
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Monday, November 21, 2011
This weekend, received a link to Pope Benedict XVI’s wonderful address on prayer to the children of St. Rita’s Parish in Benin. While the entire address is magnificent and well worth reading, I thought I’d share a portion here that really inspired me:
Some of you have already made your First Holy Communion, and others are preparing for it. The day of my First Holy Communion was one of the most beautiful... READ MORE
When Parenting Isn't Fun

I’ll admit, the sight of Arwen’s adorable little chicken and egg this morning led me to a near occasion with the sin of envy. Those two precious little babies, those smiles, all of that promise for so many wonderful years filled with fun…
Of course, what didn’t flash into my mind when I saw the photo was twice the dirty diapers, twice the sleepless nights, and twice the stress of keeping little ones... READ MORE
Who Is Your Favorite Saint?
Posted by Lisa Hendey in Faith on Tuesday, November 01, 2011
This year, more than ever, All Saints Day feels to me like a major celebration. Perhaps it’s because I’ve been so immersed in the lives of the saints due to the launch of my new book, A Book of Saints for Catholic Moms - the virtual “book tour” I’ve been enjoying has me answering the question “Who is your favorite saint?” multiple times per day.
And the truth is, every time I’m asked the question... READ MORE
Please Pray for Jonah's Mom
Posted by Danielle Bean in Faith on Monday, October 24, 2011
In today’s Coffee Talk discussion, a mom named Ashley shared a link to her heartbreaking story of the unexpected death of her infant son Jonah last week.
I know the faithful community of moms here will not fail to hold this family—and especially his mom Ashley—in prayer during this time of mourning. Jonah is in good hands, but his grieving family needs our love and support.
“I lift up my eyes to the hills—from where will my help come? My help comes from the Lord.”

This week on the podcast (click here to listen or click on the player above), Lynn, Hallie and I talk about “keeping up” in this Autumn season when life seems to be so crazy busy! From scaling back household routines to cutting back on kids activities, we’re looking at ways to economize our time so that we can enjoy more precious moments with our families. We also discuss the need for moms to ask... READ MORE
The Real Waste of Time
Posted by Arwen Mosher in Faith on Tuesday, October 18, 2011
I got to confession last weekend for a sorely-needed first time in a long time. It ended up turning into a mini-spiritual-direction session with the compassionate-but-fair priest. (I felt sorry for the people behind me in line.)
More than a week later, I’m still thinking about one of the insights he gave me. It hadn’t occurred to me before. And I thought I’d share it with you in case you haven’t either.... READ MORE
The Praying Family
Posted by Rachel Balducci in Family on Thursday, October 13, 2011
Family prayers in our home has had a wide variety of configurations. Over the years, we have adjusted our approach based on the mathematical ratio of babies to toddlers to adults, factoring into the equation that (up until eighteen months ago) Child = boy (which many days felt the same as Child x 2).
We had to keep these details in mind in order to stay sane. Because I made the mistake, in the early... READ MORE
