David Cross continues to trash 'Chipwrecked' (VIDEO)

David-cross_boffThe Vegas odds for David Cross appearing in another “Alivin and the Chipmunks” movie just went from 'highly unlikely' to NOT F*@%ING HAPPENING.

The actor/comedian, who recently slammed Fox’s “Chipwrecked” despite having co-starred in the film, went on Conan O’Brien last night to further ridicule the kid pic, telling the late night host, “It was the most miserable experience I’ve ever had in my professional life.”

Cross, who plays the villain Ian Hawke in the film, claimed his beef was not with “Chipwreck’s” cast and crew but rather an unnamed female producer.

“She is the personification of what people think about when they think negatively about Jews.”

Ouch.

Village Voice lays off film critic J. Hoberman

Village_Voice_boffoJ. Hoberman, longtime film critic for The Village Voice, has been laid off, according to New York Magazine.

"I was shocked, but not surprised,” Hoberman told the Daily Intel. "I would be disingenuous to say I hadn't considered the possibility that this would happen to me eventually.”

Hoberman joined The Village Voice in the 1970s as a freelancer before becoming senior film critic in 1988. He currently lectures at New York University and in 2008 was given the prestigious Mel Novikoff Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival for enhancing “the filmgoing public’s knowledge and appreciation of world cinema."

Hoberman’s departure follows a string of layoffs at Village Voice Media last month, when some twenty staffers at various VVM-owned papers lost their jobs.

Other veteran film critics that stopped reviewing this year include the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Carrie Rickey, who took a buyout, and the Baltimore Sun’s Michael Sragow, who segued to an editing position.

"Argo" opens Oct. 5, 2012.

'Prometheus' Trailer Delivers Sci-Fi Terror

Prometheus_newprequel

After thirty years away from the genre, Ridley Scott is back in the land of science-fiction, with 20th Century Fox today releasing the first official teaser for “Prometheus," the director's highly-anticipated sci-fi tentpole.

Set on a remote planet, the CGI-heavy “Promethus’” looks like an epic (and terrifying) reunion for Scott and his “Alien” franchise, despite Fox repeatedly denying an "Alien" descent.

Fassbender_promStarring Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and the original “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” Noomi Rapace, “Prometheus” (June 8) has the potential to do some B.O. damage leading up to Pixar's "Brave" (June 22) as well as Par's "G.I. Joe" sequel (June 29).

To be honest -- I'm kinda surprised Fox isn't going to town with the "Alien" angle, given a) it's a popular franchise, b) how well the familiarity worked out for "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" (another Fox project) and c) the obvious undertones.

Still, it's nice to see Ridley back in the sci-fi game.

"The keen fan will recognize strands of 'Alien's' DNA, so to speak," Scott previously said in a statement. "But the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative."

Written by Damon Lindelof and John Spaihts, “Prometheus” hits theaters June 8, 2012.

William, Kate to attend 'War Horse' U.K. premiere

KatewillPrince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, will attend next month’s London premiere of “War Horse,” DreamWorks announced Thursday.

The World War I pic, directed by Steven Spielberg, charts the friendship between a Britsh boy and his horse; thus, the Prince of Wales, an avid polo player, seems like a natural fit.

“War Horse” will preem Jan. 8 at Leicester Square, London's Times Square.

Watch the first teaser for 'The Hobbit'

Hobbit

Warner Bros. and New Line have released the first teaser for "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

Based on the novel by J.R. Tolkien, "The Hobbit" is set 60 years before "Lord of the Rings" and tells the story of Bilbo Baggins, the unassuming Hobbit, who becomes a hero by obtaining a powerful ring in the face of challenges by the wicked Gollum and Smaug.

Peter Jackson, who directed the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, is back at the helm, with Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Orlando Bloom, Andy Serkis, Elijah Wood, Hugo Weaving, Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett reprising their roles from the "LOTR" saga.

Warner Bros. will release the first installment of the two "Hobbit" pics on December 14, 2012. The second "Hobbit" pic, dubbed "There and Back Again," arrives December 13, 2013.
