Nitsana A. Spigland, M.D.

Dr. Spigland is chief of the Division of Pediatric Surgery and Chief of Pediatric Trauma. She is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Department of Surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. She is also the Associate Director of medical student education for the Department of Surgery. Dr. Spigland is board certified in both General Surgery and Pediatric Surgery. Dr. Spigland specializes in neonatal congenital malformaties, pediatric thoracic surgery, pediatric surgical oncology and advanced minimal access surgery. Dr. Spigland maintains a busy clinical practice for the last 22 years, and has a strong interest in clinical pediatric surgical research. She has authored or co-authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals, and serves as a reviewer for the American Journal of Perinatology, the Journal of Pediatric Surgery and the Annals of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Spigland was named as one of "America's Top Doctors", 2011-2012 by Castle Connolly, and was named one of "New York SuperDoctors," an honor awarded to just 5% of New York phyisicians.

Dr. Spigland is a fellow of American College of Surgeons, a member of the American Pediatric Surgical Associations, the Canadian Pediatric Surgical Association, the New York Surgical Society and the Children's Cancer Study Group.

Dr. Spigland received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and her M.D. degree from New York Medical College. She completed her General surgery residency at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York and her Pediatric surgical fellowship at St. Justine Children's Hospital in Montreal, Canada in 1989. She subsequently joined the surgical faculty of the UMDNJ -Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. In 1995, she relocated to New York City and joined the surgical staff of the New York Presbyterian Hospital - Cornell Campus.
