Susan Randall – Founder & Director

Susan Randall has worked as a private investigator in Vermont for over a decade.  She founded VTPrivateye on the premise that smart, experienced, compassionate people produce intelligent, useful and targeted results.  Prior to working as a private investigator, Susan worked as a journalist.  Susan produced complex investigative national radio pieces for National Public Radio, All Things Considered and Morning Edition, as well as local stories for Vermont Public Radio, where she learned about the state of Vermont and its people. Susan came to Vermont when she hit the expiration date on urban living in NYC. While in NYC, she had worked in documentary film production.  She made her way from researcher, to associate producer for A&E; Television's hit series, Biography, where she investigated the lives of famous people. Susan then became a freelance documentary film producer in New York City, where she helped investigate and produce television documentaries for the BBC, A&E; television, and others.

Once in Vermont, Susan redirected her investigative skills towards her work as a private investigator.  Susan apprenticed for several years under the direction of the first female private investigator (non-law enforcement) in the state of Vermont, Nancy Stevens. Susan then became licensed and started her own investigation agency.  Susan has extensive hands-on investigative and communications experience, and has traveled extensively.  She has worked closely with a wide range of attorneys, on both the state and federal level since becoming a private investigator. In the last couple of years, Susan has increased her work as a mitigation specialist, and has produced mitigation videos to try to help attorneys humanize their clients to the courts at sentencing.  She has also helped with capital cases, with both fact investigation and mitigation work.  Susan has worked on several international investigations, spanning several continents.  Susan directs all the investigation and litigation support activities of the office. As a private investigator and litigation support strategist, she is able to help clients realize their investigative objectives through careful planning and detailed research.

Susan’s most creative challenge to date is raising her two children, ages 8 and 10, who continually hone her life skills and deepen her compassion.  She also is trying to learn the cello, which is very humbling!

Susan Randall received a BA from Brown University in International Relations and Modern Culture and Media.

Jennifer Martin

Jennifer Martin, -HansenPI.jpg

Raised in Montana, and educated in Oregon, Jennifer Martin spent her first year out of college teaching English in the outskirts of Tokyo.  There she tamed the wild suburban youth through American culture and gained an appreciation for fine sushi and vending machine coffee.  After leaving Japan, she and her old college roommate took an epic 1,500 mile bicycle trip across the U.S., sleeping in all night laundromats and public parks along the way.  The pair landed in Vermont in 2001, and put  roots down in Burlington.  After a few years of going back and forth between blue collar and secretarial jobs, Jennifer had a child, settled down, and in 2006 took a job as a legal assistant at Clark, Werner & Flynn, a Burlington law firm.  It was at Clark Werner & Flynn that she began to hone her skills as an interviewer and researcher, and learned how to build a case for the attorneys she worked for.  Jennifer met Susan Randall in the spring of 2010, and began working as a private investigator the following year, and now is working full time with VTPrivateye, LLC.  She lives with her partner and daughter in the Old North End in Burlington.  When she's not sleuthing, she can be found writing spooky folk songs on her guitar, or building fairy huts in the back yard with her daughter.
