League Cup Anniversary Dinner

Posted on: Wed 08 Feb 2012

STOKE CITY will celebrate the 40th anniversary of their greatest cup success with a special dinner at the Britannia Stadium in March.

Ten members of the 1972 League Cup winning team will be the guests of honour at the event which will take place exactly 40 years to the day that the Potters overcame favourites Chelsea in the Wembley Final to claim the silverware.

It promises to be an occasion of great nostalgia and fittingly it will be held in the function suite which is named after the manager who masterminded the triumph, Tony Waddington, during a glorious era for the Club under his guidance.

Waddington led City to their first major Final and their first major trophy on March 4th, 1972, defying the odds as they overcame a Chelsea side who had won the FA Cup and the Cup Winners' Cup in the previous two years.

Those attending this 40th Anniversary Dinner will get to see the memorable moments of that game when goals from Terry Conroy and George Eastham sparked wild celebrations among the army of City supporters in a crowd of 97,852.

They will also get to hear from some of those heroes on the night as they reminisce about an occasion which produced so many great memories.

This black tie event on Sunday 4th March will include a three course meal and entertainment with a table of 10 priced at £390.00 including VAT.
