Danielle Harris Confirms Role In ‘Hatchet 3′!

I think a lot of us were assuming that Danielle Harris (Among Friends, Hatchet 2) would reprise her role as Marybeth in Hatchet 3, and now that assumption has been confirmed.

Speaking with OBX Entertainment Harris said, “I’m excited to be starting Hatchet III next. It’s going to be great.” This is from an appearance at this past weekend’s “Blood On The Beach” convention, and OBX claims she gave the statement yesterday. Given the timing and the fact that Hatchet 3 is currently prepping and is about to shoot in and around New Orleans, Louisiana – I’d say the margin for error is pretty low.

Hatchet 3 will be written and produced by series creator Adam Green who is handing the directing reigns over to longtime camera operator BJ McDonnell. It will continue where the story left off in Hatchet 2, as a young woman sought revenge on the malevolent Victor Crowley who killed her family while they were fishing in Louisiana swamp country. ArieScope Pictures and Dark Sky Films will likely release the film sometime in 2013.

Mel Gibson Drafted For ‘Machete Kills’

I know we just posted a Machete Kills story about an hour ago, but this is totally worth its own piece.

Even though Mel Gibson is one of the biggest turds in Hollywood history, the psychopath is one hell of an actor (maybe the madness spawns the brilliance?). Thus, having him return to his action-packed roots is nothing short of exhilarating. Deadline reports that Gibson is now in serious discussions to play a supporting role in Machete Kills, the Robert Rodriguez-directed sequel that will bring Danny Trejo back as the blade wielding former Federale title character. Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez are still in talks to return as well.

The 2010 film starred Danny Trejo as Machete, a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, and is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. In the sequel to be released by Fox, “Machete is drafted by the US government to track an arms dealer through Mexico before he can launch a rocket.READ MORE

Lionsgate Colonizes ‘Chaos Walking’, Taps Charlie Kaufman To Infect Adaptation!

Lionsgate has high hopes that the Patrick Ness young adult novel series “Chaos Walking” has the potential to become another futuristic Hunger Games-esque franchise, says Deadline. While the mission on most of those book to movie sensations is to stick close to the books, Lionsgate has done an intriguing thing on “Chaos Walking”: they’ve set Charlie Kaufman to adapt the first book in the series!

The Carnegie Medal winning book is set in a dystopian future with humans colonizing a distant earth-like planet. When an infection called the Noise suddenly makes all thought audible, privacy vanishes, chaos ensues, and a corrupt autocrat threatens to take control of the human settlements and wage war with the indigenous alien race. Only young Todd Hewitt holds the key to stopping planet wide-destruction.

It’s not quite horror, but there are some interesting elements that make it sound like it taps into Alien, Total Recall, while also channeling films like John Carter. We’ll sit back on this one and see how it develops.

Robert Rodriguez Hopes To Fully Direct ‘Machete Kills’

Even though Robert Rodriguez is busier than all hell, he still finds a way to deliver to his major supporters — genre fans. While he co-directed Machete – the 2010 feature film adaptation of his faux short included in the 2007 Grindhouse – with Ethan Maniquis, he’s telling THR that there’s a good chance that he’ll have the time to give Machete Kills his full attention.

Currently I am directing it,” Rodriguez said during an interview about the Blu-ray release of his second feature film, Roadracers. “But we’re checking to see if there’s going to be the need for another director if I have to go off and do Sin City. I wasn’t sure what the timing on Sin City was or if I would have to step off to do Sin City at a certain point, depending on when Machete went. But Machete looks like it’s going to go pretty quickly so it’s possible that I will direct the whole thing.

I feel like I really need to do it,” he reiterated. “It’s so subjective I feel like I really need to get in there and do it. It’s just a lot of fun; it’s a really cool concept, and I think it takes it to another level in a way that’s compelling for me to go and do it myself.

The 2010 film starred Danny Trejo as Machete, a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, and is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator. While there were plenty of great moments, the film did feel a bit disjointed and lacked a punch. Hopefully Rodriguez giving his full attention will push it to the brink of gore-filled amazingness. Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez are in talks to return. READ MORE

Hi-Res Domestic Poster For [REC] 3 Genesis Is Familiar, Still Great

[REC] 3 Genesis finds Paco Plaza largely dispensing with the found footage aesthetic of the series and going much broader. I still haven’t seen the film, and while Mr. Disgusting thinks it falls a hair or two short of the prior two entries, I’m not too worried. All of the teasers, trailers and images actually have me kind of confident that I’ll like this thing. I’m not a die-hard fan of the series so maybe I’m just responding positively to the new aesthetic. This beautiful high-res poster kind of makes my point for me.

In the film, “Koldo and Clara are about to celebrate the most important day of their lives: their wedding. Everything appears to be running smoothly and the bride and groom and their families are enjoying a wonderful day; that is until some of the guests start showing signs of a strange illness. Before they know what’s happening, the bride and groom find themselves in the middle of a hellish ordeal, as an uncontrollable torrent of violence is unleashed on the wedding. Amidst the chaos, Koldo and Clara become separated and begin a desperate search for one another. What started off as an idyllic day quickly descends into a nightmare of the worst kind…

New Trailer For ’388 Arletta Avenue’ Plays Closer To The Vest Than Previous Trailer

Randall Cole’s 388 Arlette Avenue the Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice) produced horror flick starring Nick Stahl, Mia Kirshner and Devon Sawa played at TIFF back in September and we got a look at a trailer shortly shortly after. Now, Trailer Addict has a look at a new teaser that decides to give even less away. Perhaps the idea is to re-position the film’s marketing somewhat in anticipation of its release.

Shot from the point of view of hidden cameras, the film follows a thirty-something couple, James and Amy Deakin, as they are secretly videotaped 24/7 by a mysterious stalker in their home, on the streets and at their workplace. The stalker uses information gleaned from the footage to subtly manipulate the unsuspecting couple and cracks in their relationship surface. When Amy suddenly vanishes, James is not sure whether she has been abducted or has simply left him. As the acts of the tormentor become more twisted and violent, James desperately tries to figure out who is behind the terror in order to save his wife. But it seems the stalker is always one move ahead…

[Random Cool] ‘Predator’ Weddings More Popular Than You Might Think!

I’m not sure if this is more “cool” or “weird” (probably the latter) but it definitely got my attention. Yesterday a twitter user named Raymond (@raubrey) shared this picture of a Predator Wedding and it got me thinking, “what kind of people would do something like that?” I mean, I suppose the bride seems into it (or she’s learned to mask her embarrassment at this point). But weddings are super expensive to begin with, how much extra does it cost for a bunch of high quality creature masks?

At any rate, I did some light digging and it didn’t take much to reveal that this isn’t the only Predator wedding shenanigan. I uncovered another photo from this wedding, a Predator grooms cake, and Alien and “PredAlien” wedding cake figurines. But my favorite just might be the engagement photo with the camouflaged hunter stalking the happy couple from amongst the trees.

Hi-Res Look At Haunted Dibbuk Box In ‘The Possession’

The box is real, its curse is legendary. In Lionsgate’s Possession (formerly Dibbuk Box), award-winning Ole Bornedal directs the tale of the horrific nightmare unleashed on one family who unwittingly brings a cursed box into their home. The real-life box gained notoriety in 2004 when it sold on eBay after causing inexplicable bad fortune to its owners which were attributed to a dibbuk – a malevolent spirit of Jewish folklore trapped in the haunted box.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Kyra Sedgwick, Madison Davenport, and Natasha Calis all star in the supernatural horror opening in theaters on August 31.

We’ve now landed a hi-res look at Natasha Calis as “Em” that puts the haunted box on display.

Penned by Juliet Snowden & Stiles White, “A recently divorced father’s (Morgan) youngest daughter becomes strangely connected to an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale. As his daughter’s behavior becomes more erratic, the father senses a dark presence building until he discovers that the box was built to contain a dibbuk — a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.READ MORE
