Senior guard Darrell Lampley scored a game-high 18 points, but his potential game-winning attempt with six seconds remaining was blocked and Eastern Michigan lost, 62-58, to Kent State on Wednesday night.

Kent State’s Randal Holt hit a 3-pointer with 23 seconds left to play at EMU’s Convocation Center to give the Golden Flashes a 59-58 lead.

After Lampley’s short jumper was blocked by Patrick Jackson, Kent State’s Chris Evans sealed the win by hitting 3-of-4 free throws in the final seconds.

Despite their third consecutive Mid-American Conference crossover loss, the Eagles (10-14, 5-5) remain in sole possession of first place in the MAC West Division. Second-place Ball State (12-10, 4-6) and Western Michigan (10-14, 4-6) have also lost three straight.

Kent State (17-6, 7-3 MAC East) has beaten Eastern Michigan 16 straight times and is 8-0 at the Convocation Center since it was built in 1998.

Antonio Green scored 12 points and Jamell Harris 10 for the Eagles. Lampley added seven assists and five rebounds.

Justin Greene, the defending MAC Player of the Year, led Kent State with 17 points and six rebounds.
