[OMFG] Awe-Inspiring Trailer For Korean Anthology 'Doomsday Book'!
Posted By MrDisgusting February 14, 2012 @ 1:55am

Just last week we broke the news about a new Korean anthology entitled Doomsday Book, an omnibus sci-fi project by two helmers that looks to blow all of our friggin' mind some time this year.

The brilliant Kim Jee-woon (I Saw the Devil, A Tale of Two Sisters) tells the story of a robot working for a temple who becomes self-aware, while Yim Pil-sung (Hansel & Gretel) follows an innocent young man who becomes a zombie! There's apparently also a tale about a meteor about to crash into Earth.

"Two acclaimed Korean directors unfurl three unique stories of human self-destruction in the modern high-tech era. In a hope to restore the humane compassion in the insusceptible modern age, the film displays an alternative form of genuine humanity. And thus you are stepping into the world of future, where a series of unexpected stories awaits you. All these stories originate from the earth. From the very earth you live on."

It's visually staggering and looks to be one of the few "must sees" of 2012. Watch the striking trailer inside and then tell us what your thoughts are. Pretty friggin' cool, no?!

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter

Twentieth Century Fox is celebrating the birth of our 16th President by going all-in and bashing us over the head with content from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D, their horror historical retelling from Russian director Timur Bekmambetov.

This morning we shared with you the first trailer. Then we took you on a tour of the Lincoln Presidential Library, Vault and Tomb, while also giving you tons of interviews from the big press day. But that was just the beginning. Grab an axe and shamble on in to check out a brand new international trailer featuring new footage of Benjamin Walker as Honest Abe -- president by day, vampire hunter by night!

In theaters June 22, "Seth Grahame-Smith's revision of a Jane Austen classic explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation. As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln (Walker) witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war - and ultimately to the presidency - he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved."

TV: Watch Last Night's Episode Of "The Walking Dead", Check Out Photos From Next Week's Installment!
Posted By EvanDickson February 13, 2012 @ 10:57pm

Wow. Last night's episode of "The Walking Dead", "Nebraska", scored some insane numbers! 8.1 Million viewers checked out the initial airing and an additional 2 million tuned in for later broadcasts bringing the tally to a whopping 10.1 million pairs of eyes. "The Walking Dead" is already a ratings behemoth, especially for a cable show, but this shattered its own prior record by a significant margin.

The show "tells the story of the weeks and months that follow a pandemic zombie apocalypse. County Sheriff Rick Grimes travels with his family and a small group of survivors, constantly in search of a safe and secure home. But the constant pressure of fighting off death on a daily basis takes a heavy toll, sending many to the lowest depths of human cruelty. As Rick struggles to keep his family alive, he will discover that the overwhelming fear of the survivors can be far more dangerous than the mindless walkers roaming the earth."

Next week's episode is entitled "Triggerfinger" and airs next Sunday, February 19th at 9/8c.

Hit the jump to watch "Nebraska" in its entirety and check out some stills from "Triggerfinger".

We've just added the trailer below that's an instant success. In a short preview we're immediately drawn in with some intense footage and a shocking turn of events that catapulted my interest from "non-existent" to "must-see." We've also added some art and an early teaser video.

Confirmed: Guillermo del Toro Directing 'Beauty and the Beast'
Posted By MrDisgusting February 13, 2012 @ 6:39pm

Another odd project I don't know if we should be reporting on is the super vague adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, which Variety reports will now be directed by Guillermo del Toro. Del Toro has yet to venture out of the "dark side" (Hellboy, Pan's Labyrinth, Blade 2, Mimic, The Devil's Backbone), which makes me believe this will also be a chilling take on the classic story.

Warner Bros. has tapped Bridget Jones's Diary scribe Andrew Davies to write Beauty and the Beast, which also has Harry Potter star Emma Watson in final negotiations to topline the period pic. I can only assume she'll be playing the beast?

It should also be noted that Del Toro is working on Pacific Rim, and attached his name to more than a handful of projects. Don't be surprised if this curse is never lifted. Del Toro will write a treatment that Davies will then work off of.

EXCLUSIVE [Special Report] Take A Hit Off 'Black Forest: Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch'!
Posted By EvanDickson February 13, 2012 @ 6:30pm

Directed by Duane Journey, Black Forest: Hansel and Gretel & The 420 Witch updates the Grimm Brothers’ classic fairytale to modern-day Pasadena. Except now the forest is an immense indoor hydroponic marijuana farm. So naturally some liberties have been taken with the existing text. It’s being described as a bit Edgar Wright and a bit Pineapple Express but very gory.

The film is "about a brother and sister who battle a witch that uses a special drug to lure teenagers into her suburban home where she devours them to maintain her youth and beauty."

Written by David Tillman and produced by Dark Highway Films, Black Forest stars Molly Quinn (“Castle”), Michael Welch (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse), Lara Flynn Boyle (“Twin Peaks”, Men In Black II) and introduces Bianca Saad.

Sound like your kind of thing? I was able to visit the set recently, so hit the jump for my report!

[EFM '12] First Look At Vampire Thriller 'Byzantium'
Posted By MrDisgusting February 13, 2012 @ 6:25pm

Byzantium

Below you'll find the first ever image from Neil Jordan's Byzantium, about a pair of women who claim to be vampire siblings.

Having just wrapped principal photography, Gemma Arterton, Saoirse Ronan, Caleb Landry Jones, Danny Mays, Bradley James, Sam Riley, Jonny Lee Miller and Tom Hollander all star. It is for sale at EFM in Berlin.

"On the run for murder, two young "sisters" arrive penniless at an English seaside town. Clara is a fiercely modern woman who has her eyes on the future and no time for the past. Teenager Eleanor is shy and innocent. Yet they both hide the same secrets: they are really mother and daughter, and they are both ... vampires!

Eleanor is exhausted by 200 years on the run and desperate to settle down. But little does she know that her mother has been protecting her all of the years from their own kind, "The Brotherhood". To escape them, they must either blend in or continue running away. But just as they think they may have escaped, their past rapidly catches up with them.

Michael Mann In Talks For Hard-Edged Thriller 'The Big Stone Grid'
Posted By MrDisgusting February 13, 2012 @ 6:09pm

Described as Seven meets Marathon Man, we thought it was appropriate to report on Michael Mann's potential new project.

From the mind of crime dramas such as Heat and Collateral, Mann is in talks to develop to direct The Big Stone Grid, a cop thriller that Sony Pictures bought as a spec script last year by S. Craig Zahler.

"The script is a hard-edged thriller about two decorated detectives who uncover a terrifying extortion ring that operates within the secret underbelly of New York City."

The plan is for Mann to do a pass with the Zahler. We'll make tis the last report on the film until we know for sure just what direction it goes in.

EXCLUSIVE Plot Details, New Casting For Platinum Dunes' 'Vigilandia'
Posted By MrDisgusting February 13, 2012 @ 3:56pm

Rhys Wakefield (pictured below; Sanctum ) will star opposite Ethan Hawke, Lena Headey, Max Burkholder, Adelaide Kane, Edwin Hodge and Tony Oller in sci-fi thriller Vigilandia being helmed by writer-director James DeMonaco.

In addition, Bloody Disgusting exclusively scored a small taste of plot details that, until now, have been kept under wraps. The sci-fi thriller takes place in a future where a new regime, called "New Founding Fathers of America", seek to control an epidemic of violence and crime with an experiment called "The Cure". The Cure is a completely hypocritical "event" where, three times a year, for 12 hours, murder is completely legal. The film is said to play like a home invasion film with a heavy political theme. It's planned to be the first film in a post-apocalyptic franchise.

Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes' (Brad Fuller and Andrew Form) - responsible for Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes - are producing with Blumhouse Productions (Paranormal Activity, Insidious).

Filming is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Dan Aykroyd Shreds 'Ghostbusters 3' Rumors
Posted By MrDisgusting February 13, 2012 @ 2:16pm

Ghostbusters

Here we go again.

Empire recently hosted a webchat with Dan Aykroyd who once again talked about Ghostbusters 3, and the rumored drama circling the long-gestured Columbia Pictures project.

The site reports that Aykroyd hinted that Bill Murray may not return as Peter Venkman, and that the character could be played by a different actor, a la Jack Ryan. As for the internet rumor that Murray recently shredded a Ghostbusters 3 script and sent it back with a note that said, "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts", Aykroyd denied it with vigour. "Bill Murray is not capable of such behavior. This is simply something that would not be in his nature. We have a deep, private personal relationship that transcends business. We communicate frequently and his position on the involvement in Ghostbusters 3 has been made clear and I respect that. But Bill has too much positive estimation of my writing skills to shred the work."

As for the delay, he explains, "The script must be perfect. We cannot release a film that is any less than that. We have more work to do."

Confirming earlier reports, Aykroyd also drops this juicy nugget about a returning character - the reclusive Rick Moranis as Louis Tully: " If we can get the script to Ghostbusters 3 right, then it would definitely have Moranis as a major component. None of us would want to do the movie without having him as a participant."

If the film ever gets off the ground it will follow a ragtag group of paranormal researchers who reopen their notorious ghost removal service, and a new generation of Ghostbusters is brought on board to be green slimed and trained to contain the mischievous spirits. We previously reported that the new 'Busters will be lead by Dana and Peter's lovechild, Oscar.

Warners Creates The Illusion Of A Haunting In 'The Waiting'
Posted By MrDisgusting February 13, 2012 @ 2:07pm

Warner Bros. Pictures has pre-emptively acquired The Waiting, a script by first time screenwriters Mark Bianculli and Jeff Richard, reports Deadline.

Described as Rear Window meets Paranormal Activity, "mysterious events occur when two high school filmmakers decide to create the illusion of a haunting on an unsuspecting neighbor."

These scribes have been working their way up the ladder. Bianculli is currently a writer’s assistant on CBS’s "Unforgettable," and previously a PA on FX’s "Justified." Richard worked as a production assistant on "NCSI: Los Angeles." Both writers worked as assistants at Industry Entertainment where they met Rosalie Swedlin. Bianculli became Swedlin’s assistant at Anonymous Content.

[Sundance '12] Interview: 'Grabbers' Filmmakers Jon Wright and Kevin Lehane
Posted By Fred Topel February 13, 2012 @ 1:21pm

Grabbers

The Sundance Film Festival midnight movie Grabbers can claim at least one thing we've never seen before. There has never before been a movie where the secret to beating the monsters was to get totally drunk. Sure, Shaun of the Dead had heroes defeat zombies despite being drunk, but this is the first time it's actually a strategy.

Irish writer Kevin Lehane and director Jon Wright made a film about bloodsucking aliens invading Ireland, and the local cops figure out if they're drunk, the monsters won't touch their blood. Partied out by the end of the week, Lehane and Wright chatted with me Wednesday afternoon over waters and Diet Cokes, but still a lively discussion about drinking, movie monsters and good CG.

Meet One Of The Witches Of Rob Zombie's 'Salem'!
Posted By MrDisgusting February 13, 2012 @ 10:53am

Lords of Salem

Things have been quiet in Salem, at least until today. This morning writer-director Rob Zombie released a pair on new photos from the editing bay that depict Meg Foster as Margaret Morgan, leader of the coven of witches known as The Lords of Salem (also the title of the film).

Ernest Thomas, Jeff Daniel Phillips, Torsten Voges, Bruce Dern, Sheri Moon Zombie, Dee Wallace, Billy Drago, Richard Lynch, Lisa Marie, Maria Conchita Alonso, Ken Foree, Bruce Davidson, Christopher Knight, Michael Berryman and Sid Haig all star alongside Foster.

"The story is about a local DJ who mistakenly unleashes a hellish curse on the town. 300 years earlier on the very streets of Salem that the townspeople walk on today, innocent folks were rounded up from their homes, convicted of being witches and sentenced to death. The Lords of Salem ran the town with an iron fist, but four witches who were tortured and killed in secrecy vowed that one day they would be back for revenge."
