Tell Us About World Youth Day

My facebook feed over the weekend has been filled with great moments:
The fervor and joy of more than a million young people gathered to stand for the Faith and with the Holy Father;
The sudden hush when the noisy crowds entered into silent adoration;
Moments of confrontation with angry protesters that became opportunities to exercise courage, patience, charity and faith;
The beautiful wisdom of the Pope’s various addresses.
Were you or your kids at World Youth Day in Madrid? Or maybe following proceedings on tv?
If so, I hope you’ll share your impressions while they’re still fresh.
For the Youth of the World

Am I the only one, or does this little montage have your heart bursting with joy for our Church?
Grassroots Films has really captured the essence of World Youth Day. Young people, given the chance, will be on fire for our beautiful faith. The “future of our Church” … begins in the present of our Church.
Anyone heading to Spain with a group this summer? I know it’s an exhausting pilgrimage, but after watching this short film, I think it might be wise to hide my credit cards and checkbook … or by day’s end I may find myself the proud owner of plane tickets to Madrid!

From the silly (Aussie slang and pilgrim snacks) to the sublime, Tim captured the local color and made a far-away event seem more real. As an instance of the sublime, I recommend his astonishing interview with the actors who... READ MORE
Healing Our Scarred Environment

May I beg you to read the Holy Father’s message to young people delivered yesterday in Sydney? It’s rich beyond my word count here, but I can’t resist a summary at least. First, since environmental matters are a foremost concern in the vulnerable island nations of the Pacific, the Holy Father’s controlling image is the beauty of creation. Here’s how he describes his journey to WYDSYD as it’s being... READ MORE
Wise As Serpents

The Vatican released some cute video and photos of the Holy Father being introduced to the fauna of Australia today: a kangaroo, a parrot, a koala. I think I’m not the only one who found the second image here rather arresting.
