Literary Scholar Riahi Dies

Mohammad Amin Riahi

Tehran, May 17, 2009: Iranian literary scholar and historian Mohammad Amin Riahi died Friday of complications related to old age at a hospital in Tehran. He was 86.

According to IRNA, Riahi was born in 1923 in Khoy, West Azarbaijan province.

Riahi got a PhD in Persian literature from Tehran University, and was familiar with French, Arabic and Pahlavi.

The researcher was a member of Iran+s Academy of Persian Language and Literature as well the Dehkhoda Lexicography Institute. For years, he was the president of Iran+s Shahnameh Foundation.

“Khoy History” and “The Basis of Knowledge About Ferdowsi” are among his books.

Riahi+s funeral will be held today. A commemoration for the scholar will also be held in Khoy on Thursday.
