On November 19 this year, forty five young people from different secondary schools and communities converged at the headquarters of Young Peace Builders at Peter Lane in  Freetown where the undertook a one day training session for peace building and youth development for the forth coming Volunteering Youth Peace Camp scheduled to take place in December in Makeni.

In an interview yesterday with the organisation’s Executive Director, Mr. Herbert Bangura, he explained that they decided to host the one training session in order to give the participants a feel of what they will experience in the up-coming Youth Camp 2011.

He disclosed that pupils were selected from different schools like the St Edward’s, Government Rokel, Government Model, Pedmal School and others.

He also explained that the programme is basically meant to teach young people about their responsibilities to be good citizens in the country.

He also stated that the main purpose of this year’s Youth Camp is to strategically think on the way forward and how they should prepare their minds for the challenges of leadership.

He also explained they have realised that the young people are seriously marginalised in the affairs of the country, noting that they intend to let authorities realise that they too have a very pivotal role to play in nation building.

He also explained that now that elections are just around the corner they thought it fit to fully engage the young people around the country in a peace camp where they will have the opportunity to listen to messages that will teach them about how to live peacefully with one another.
