Talk:Turkey

The leads in articles for many countries mention historical inhabitants/cultures in their territories. Should Ancient Anatolians be mentioned in Turkey? Cavann (talk) 21:50, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:2012 Packers–Seahawks officiating controversy

How should the play be described in the lead/article? These are the two versions being debated:
  • Version 1: "Both Tate and Packers defender M. D. Jennings got their hands on the ball while attempting to gain possession."
  • Version 2: "Packers defender M. D. Jennings leapt and appeared to gain possession of the ball before Tate got his hands on it and attempted to wrestle it away."

Survey

  • Some form of Version 1: This source states "Golden Tate controls the ball before Jennings" and is supported by frame-by-frame photo analysis (this source was mentioned on the ESPN website as well.) There are clearly sources that support both sides of the argument - that either Tate or Jennings appeared to gain control first - and Version 1 accounts for both of those. Version 2 presents a clear WP:NPOV issue IMO. SGMD1 Talk/Contribs 14:26, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Bicycle helmets in Australia

Currently there are some 13 references to material on the Bicycle Helmet Research Foundation web site. Given that it is a single-issue web site, I have sought opinions at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Bicycle_Helmet_Research_Foundation on whether it is a suitable authority for the relevant assertions which cite it in this article. Please provide feedback on this question in the Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard#Bicycle_Helmet_Research_Foundation section of the RS noticeboard. Tim C (talk) 02:25, 16 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia talk:Vital articles/Expanded

Why is Harry Potter (15 years old) not subject to anti-recentism? Is it due to its popularity, sales, notability, influence on literature? Why? Seems like a very simple question that should be easy to answer. GabeMc (talk|contribs) 22:30, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Rape culture

Should this content which directly discusses rape culture in India be restored to this article?

Ruchira Gupta, founder of Apne Aap Women Worldwide writing for The Hindu after the rape and death of a young girl on a bus has said that she has "seen the steady creeping in of a rape culture into the fabric of India"[1] It has been estimated that up to 100,000 children go missing each year, with the majority of them being sexually abused. The Justice Verma panel has said this is due to a rape culture and that missing children are trafficked, sexually assaulted and that the police are complicit in these crimes.[2].

Due to highly disruptive closures of this RFC by involved editors I have had little choice but to begin it again. Darkness Shines (talk) 17:09, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Articles for creation/Help desk

Should the article for creation for the subject 'Teacher Quality' be approved? (Existing discussion below) Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 04:51, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Traditional marriage

the term "traditional marriage" as used in discussions of legal definitions of marriage in western, predominantly/historically christian, countries -- and, specifically, the United States -- is not a neutral term and should not be used without explanation/contextualization. note that previous extensive discussion of ths issue, along with suggestions for contextualization and alternate terms, can be found on the Traditional marriage talk page. oedipus (talk) 05:20, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Fordham University

Is the amount of detail included in the article appropriate? At specific dispute thus far is the "Performing Arts" section, but the broader question is whether information (outside of basic facts) which is verified only by the school's website should be included. The talk page section above (Talk: Fordham University#Excessive) has explanations for the positions of the involved parties as well as the input of a Third Opinion. Talk:Minorities in Greece

Should this article contain the problems of the muslim minority in Athens? (particularly lack of a mosque, a cemetary) Filanca (talk) 19:37, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

Category talk:Traditional knowledge

Should Category:traditional knowledge, which includes both things like how to build a boat and navigate to another island and myths about the creation of the world, be included in category:knowledge? The previous section is a short discussion on this particular issue and the section before that was an RfC to change the name so it didn't say 'knowledge' in the title. Talk:List of Internet chess servers

As the above discussion shows, there's disagreement regarding policy, whether Chess.com is or isn't permitted to be an item in the article list. (~3 editors feel it isn't permitted on basis that all items listed must meet notability equal to that required to support their own stand-alone articles. ~4 editors feel policy does not make that requirement and Chess.com is qualified to be a member of the list; a mention of Chess.com occurs in a NYTimes article linked above.) Thank u. Ihardlythinkso (talk) 11:59, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Talk:Charlize Theron

A debate surrounding the way to describe Theron's nationality in this article's lead has been simmering on for some time.

Previous discussion regarding this issue can be seen in these sections -

African American
Re:African American

Nationality
German citizenship application
South African-American or African-American?
South African-born
Manual of Style on nationality
Application of WP:MOSBIO and WP:OPENPARA

Nationality II
Self-identification as South African sourced

A number of proposals for solutions have been put forward to solve this debate. Here are several which have been proposed.

Solution A - Describe Theron as "South African" only in the lead.
Solution B - Describe Theron as "American" only in the lead.
Solution C - Describe Theron as "South African and American" in the lead.
Solution D - Describe Theron as "South African-born American" in the lead.
Solution E - Do NOT mention Theron's nationality in the lead or infobox. Discuss it in the body of the article.
Solution F - Do NOT mention Theron's nationality in the lead. List "South African" in the infobox and discuss it in the body of the article.

Please weigh-in, indicating the solution(s) you support using the example format below. Include a brief explanation of your rationale. Or, alternatively, if you have some idea which hasn't previously been put forward, let us know!

Example format:

  • Support C or D - She's clearly a mix of Yank and South Afican. ISupportStuff (talk) 20:35, 18 February 2252 (UTC)
