Panda named NL Player of the Week

Pablo Sandoval was one of the driving forces behind the Giants' perfect record last week, and on Monday, the third baseman was recognized for it as he earned his first career National League Player of the Week Award.

Sandoval slugged a Major League-best 1.120 with 28 total bases and tied for the Major League lead in RBIs (10), home runs (four) and triples (two) while leading San Francisco to a perfect 6-0 week, bringing the reigning World Series champions to within five games of the NL West-leading D-backs.

The highlight of Sandoval's week came on Friday in Colorado, as he hit for the cycle, just the 25th cycle in Giants history and 10th in the San Francisco era. It also marked the first time a player has hit for the cycle against one pitcher since July 6, 1999.

Sandoval continued to crush Rockies pitching on Sunday, hitting two home runs and another triple, driving in a total of four in the Giants' 12-5 win.

Sandoval's teammate, right fielder Carlos Beltran, also was under consideration for the award. Beltran hit .467 with three home runs, six RBIs and scored seven runs last week while also slugging .900.
