STAR Jalsha strengthens prime time with Gaaner Oparey
A tribute to Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore
STAR Jalsha, the No. 1 Bengali General Entertainment Channel in West Bengal pushes the boundaries of television viewing experience yet again with the launch of Gaaner Oparey - a unique show that marks the beginning of a-year-long celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.
Gaaner Oparey is a love story of Gora & Sohini who come from different musical backgrounds; one, whose roots are deeply imbibed with the classical Rabindra Sangeet heritage and preserving it in its pure form while the other a talented maverick who is passionate about music and believes in experimentation to keep in tune with the times. The story progresses with the journey of Tagore's relevance and genius through his music, both modern and classical and rediscovering the genius of Tagore.

Prosenjit & Rituparno Ghosh combination is at work in Gaaner Oparey. Rituparno Ghosh makes a comeback to television after many years. He is the creative director and the scriptwriter for Gaaner Oparey. Prosenjit is spearheading this project as the Producer and he is orchestrating all aspects of the project to create this very unique, very Bengali show. Joydip Mukherjee, after Bandhan & Ekhaney Akash Neel, is directing Gaaner Oparey under the creative supervision of Rituparno Ghosh. Debjyoti Mishra & Neel Dutt is creating the music for this musical daily soap. While Neel has composed music for six songs Debjyoti is now responsible for composing the songs as well as the background score for this show.
This show marks the appearance of Mimi as Sohini and Rishi as Gora. The show also boasts of an ensemble cast comprising Dipankar De, Anuradha Roy, Bodhisattwa Majumder, Krishnakishore, Kaushik Sen, Anjana Basu, Aparajita Addya, Ananya Chatterjee, Anindita Basu, Saswata Chatterjee, Biswajit Chakrabarty, Mithu Chakrabarty among others.

As per the latest TAM data (week 23), STAR Jalsha continues to reign at 417 GRPs compared to its nearest competition Zee Bangla and ETV Bangla that stand at 169 & 127 GRPs respectively. The top ranking shows of STAR Jalsha grow stronger each week and engage the viewers with their unparallel narratives and storylines. eg. Bou Kotha Kou and Maa that continue to be the chartbusters with 6.3 and 6.4 TVRs respectively. The new show @Bhalobasha.com averaged to 4.5 TVRs in week 23.
At the recently held Telly Samman Awards 2010, STAR Jalsha stood as the unchallenged leader bagging 14 out of 27 awards in key categories reinforcing its creative might.
