The Ukrainian Navy and the Russian Black Sea Fleet will resume joint naval exercises after a seven-year interval. Members of the two countries’ naval staff met in the Ukrainian port of Sevastopol on April 15th to discuss preparations for the upcoming large-scale maneuvers, scheduled for June this year. Russian was declared the working language of the exercises, which will include search-and-rescue efforts as part of peacekeeping operations. Russian-Ukrainian naval exercises called “The Fairway of Peace” were traditionally held once every two years since 1997, involving ships, auxiliary vessels, aircraft and helicopters of naval aviation, as well as units of marines.
