GAUGE

In Stockinette stitch using larger needles, 14 sts and 20 rows = 4”/10cm

In Pattern stitch using larger needles, 16 sts and 20 rows = 4”/10cm

BACK

With smaller needles, CO 70 (74, 78, 82, 86, 90) sts.

Ribbing:

Row 1 (WS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end.

Row 2: K2, *p2, k2; rep from * to end.

Rep Rows 1 and 2 for ribbing 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3) times more, then rep Row 1.

Change to larger needles and est patt as follows:

Rows 1, 3, 7, 9 and 11 (RS): P13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23), *k10, p7; rep from * twice more, ending last rep with p13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23).

Row 2 and all even rows: K13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23), *p10, k7; rep from * twice more end last rep with k13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23).

Row 5 (cable row): P13(15, 17, 19, 21, 23), *sl next 5 sts to cn (cable needle) and hold at back of work, k5, k5 sts from cn, p7; rep from * twice more, ending last rep with p13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23).

Rep Rows 1-12 for patt until piece measures 15 (15, 15, 16, 16, 16)”/38 (38, 38, 40.5, 40.5, 40.5)cm from beg.

Shape Armholes

Maintaining patt, BO 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows -- 62 (66, 68, 72, 74, 78) sts. Dec 1 st at each end of every other row 4 (5, 5, 6, 6, 7) times -- 54 (56, 58, 60, 62, 64) sts. Work even until armhole measures 7 (7 ½, 8, 8 ½, 9, 9 ½)”/18 (19, 20.5, 21.5, 23, 24)cm, ending with a WS row.

Shape Shoulders

Maintaining patt, BO 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 4) sts at beg of next 4 rows, then BO 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) sts at beg of next 2 rows – 32 (34, 36, 36, 38, 40) sts.

Collar

Change to smaller needles.

Row 1 (RS): K, inc 18 (16, 18, 18, 20, 18) sts evenly spaced across row – 50 (50, 54, 54, 58, 58) sts.

Beg with Row 1, work ribbing as on lower edge for 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3)”/5 (5, 5, 7.5, 7.5 7.5)cm. Change to larger needles and cont ribbing until collar measures 7 (7, 7, 8, 8, 8)”/18 (18, 18, 20.5, 20.5, 20.5)cm above inc row. BO all sts loosely in ribbing.

 

FRONT

Work same as Back until 4 rows less to shoulder shaping, ending with a RS row.

Shape Neck and Shoulders

Next row (WS): Maintaining patt, work 17 (17, 17, 18, 18, 18) sts, join another ball of yarn, work 20 (22, 24, 24, 26, 28) sts and sl on a holder, work rem 17 (17, 17, 18, 18, 18) sts.

Working both sides at once with separate balls of yarn, dec 1 st at each neck edge every row 6 times; AT THE SAME TIME, when piece measures same as Back to shoulders,

BO 4 (4, 4, 4, 4, 4) sts at each armhole edge twice, then 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 4) sts once.

Collar

With RS facing and smaller needles, beg at top of left shoulder, pu and k9 (9, 9, 9, 9, 9) sts along left neck edge, k20 (22, 24, 24, 26, 28) sts from holder, pu and k9 (9, 9, 9, 9, 9) sts along right neck edge – 38 (40, 42, 42, 44, 46) sts. WS: Purl 1 row.

Next row (RS): K, inc 20(18, 20, 20, 22, 20) sts evenly spaced across row -- 58 (58, 62, 62, 66, 66) sts. 

Beg with Row 1, work ribbing as on lower edge for 2 (2, 2, 3, 3, 3)”/5 (5, 5, 7.5, 7.5 7.5)cm. Change to larger needles and cont ribbing until collar measures 7 (7, 7, 8, 8, 8)”/18 (18, 18, 20.5, 20.5, 20.5)cm. BO all sts loosely in ribbing.

 

SLEEVES

With smaller needles, CO 38 (38, 42, 42, 46, 46) sts. Work ribbing as on Back for 13 rows.

Change to larger needles and est patt st as follows:

Row 1 (RS): P14 (14, 16, 16, 18, 18), k10, p14 (14, 16, 16, 18, 18).

Row 2: K14 (14, 16, 16, 18, 18), p10, k14 (14, 16, 16, 18, 18).

Work just one cable twist as for back starting Row 5 and following pat for cable twist throughout sleeve.  AT THE SAME TIME inc 1 st each side every 2 ½” 5 times -- 48 (48, 52, 52, 56, 56) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 17 (17, 17, 18, 18, 18)”/43 (43, 43, 45.5, 45.5, 45.5)cm from CO edge, ending with a WS row.

Shape Cap

Maintaining patt, BO 4 (4, 5, 5, 6, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows -- 40 (40, 42, 42, 44, 44) sts. Dec 1 st each end of every other row 11 (11, 12, 12, 13, 13) times. BO rem 18 sts.

 

FINISHING

Block all pieces to measurements.

Join shoulders and collar seams. Sew in Sleeves.  Sew side and Sleeve seams.

Using yarn needle, weave in ends.
