Street Renamed For Betty Shabazz

MYFOXNY.COM - The late Betty Shabazz, wife of Malcolm X, had a street renamed after her in Washington Heights Saturday.

The corner 165th Street and Broadway is now “Dr. Betty Shabazz Way.”

The corner is the former location of the Audubon Ballroom where Malcolm X was assassinated giving a speech.

Shabazz raised six children by herself after his death and earned a doctorate from University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

The month of March is Women’s History Month and local officials say Saturday’s ceremony is a fitting tribute.
