go into effect October 1, 2009 and will require that each
hospital bill or other summary of charges to a patient include a
statement that a patient who meets certain income criteria may
qualify for assistance. Hospitals will also be required to
conspicuously post a sign in the admission and registration areas
with the following notice:

Green Mercy Hospital presented Merika Coleman with a proclamation in
recognition of the passage of legislation she sponsored to allow the
hospital to keep the revenue it generates.
The bill was signed into law by
Governor Bob Riley on May 22, 2009.

ENDORSES MERIKA COLEMAN FOR STATE SENATE (2009)
The Birmingham News has endorsed Merika Coleman as the best choice
for the District 19 Senate Seat. The endorsement reads, "Merika
Coleman is clearly the better choice. Since her election in 2002,
Coleman has been an active and engaged representative, not just
amassing a good voting record but playing a leadership role as
well." The full endorsement appears in the Sunday, June 28th edition
on page 2F in the Viewpoints section of the
Rep. Merika Coleman has picked up a key endorsement in her run for
the senate seat in District 19 that was vacated by E.B. McClain.
The Jefferson County Chapter of Alabama NewSouth Coalition pledges full support of
Coleman as she faces a run-off election against Rep. Priscilla Dunn.
Elections will be held June 30.
